Once again necessity is the Mother of Invention and this is proven once more, as this very thoughtful young man has been seriously affected by the loss of his Uncle to the big C.
My own experience as an inventor was that we needed something new, to make a real difference in the Paradigm that existed and so I looked outside the square and found something that would not be accepted in any Engineering school anywhere, but has now proven to be the new Paradigm and this is what has happened here with young Jack Andraka, a name we will all use many times, as it becomes a household word.

I hope that Jack and his breakthrough discovery becomes the new Paradigm, for all our sakes and that he does as you said, become extremely wealthy and uses his newfound wealth to do even more amazing things, in his life, which is really just now starting. How many of the truly great men, or women, of science could claim such an invention at 16 years of age, not even Newton, or Locke,or Hahnemann, could claim it.
