A Woman Is The Environment For Her Eggs
Viv first put this thought into words for me. It’s true: a woman is not just a container or envelope for her eggs, she’s the environment they live in for her whole life.
Unlike men, who make as much sperm as they want “on the fly”, so to speak, a woman is born with her supply of eggs and gets no more from then on. [Actually, that's not really true: but you can't make new "good" eggs out of "rubbish" potential, any more than dirty water can wash you clean!]
Thus it is of great consequence, what a woman does with her body: the kind of nutrition she obtains, the burden of toxins, the emotional environment, the hormones… all of it. It’s all relevant.
Ten years of bad habits could wipe out the integrity of the potential fetuses from those eggs. Conversely, several years of attention to the right sort of nutrients, stress reduction, toxin removal, hormone balance, love and harmony can repair the milieu and give those eggs a chance of doing OK.
I’m sure women don’t think of themselves in this way; most probably think, “It’s my affair only, if I want to smoke, take The Pill or drink gin; it only matters if I become pregnant.” They would be wrong. The babies are already onboard, as potential, and even if they don’t get a vote as such, they do count.
It’s a big responsibility for a woman. And when you see teenage girls on the floor in the bar, yakking up their guts because of alcohol poisoning, it should be cause for more than just slight concern.
Somebody speak to these egg-carrier girls!
Here's a rare and stunning photograph of the very moment an egg emerged from the ovary... Ovulation, as it's called.
[There is a sad irony to this photo, which is that it was snapped during a hysterectomy: meaning the surgeons had seen fit to remove the whole purpose of this wonder of Nature; the eggs will have nowhere to go!]
Pre-Conceptual Care
It puts me in mind of the work of the Foresight Association (The Association For Pre-Conceptual Care), started in Britain by Mrs. Belinda Barnes (Nim). You might need to read the words in parenthesis again: pre-conceptual care, not prenatal.
Their sterling work has shown time and again that poor fertility and birth defects can be corrected with attention to good nutrition and lifestyle—started long before trying to conceive, even.
I was one of their representative doctors many years ago; in the 1980s. And therefrom, I might share with you, what it is that started me thinking along these lines!
A few days ago I received a very moving card and letter from a couple who had come to see me because of fertility problems. They had tried everything and were facing unpleasant choices, like IVF/ICSI, or even adoption. They already had a history of several failed IVF/ICSI interventions.
I put them (both) through the program of nutrition and lifestyle clean up, which had worked well so many times before. Food allergy comes along as a common cause of infertility. Then there is chemical exposure, from xeno-estrogens, heavy metal inflammations and the whole nine yards.
Not Enough!
Suffice it to say that all this, alone, was not sufficient to clear the problem. So I called in my special “energy medicine” friend, Susan; a sort of urban shaman and spirit operator. This troubled the couple because they were devout Christians and had been sold on the nonsense that—though God must by definition have invented all life energies—that the Devil had somehow usurped God in the wise and healing use of these energies!
Anyway, they were brave and followed my recommendation, despite any misgivings. They met with Susan. I salute their courage.
Let’s leave the story there for the moment, while I tell you the parallel history.
Meantime, the orthodox crowd were putting them through a lot of hassle. The couple had been told there would be no offspring without ICSI, because of the man’s poor sperm quality. Then yet another center reported that the sperm quality was normal. But after yet another failed attempt, they were told to start considering donor eggs. It was a mess.
But what emerged—very funny really—is that the lassie must have been pregnant at the very moment of being given this latest news. The fetus was probably sniggering at what it heard!
Bach Flower Remedies
Long story short: Susan, who is a gifted medical intuitive, gave the husband a Bach flower remedy (see Virtual Medicine, 2nd edition, page 126), crab apple. It is for people with feelings of being “unclean” and emotionally tainted; not physically unclean, you understand; these were nice folks. But in the words of Edward Bach, the developer of these astonishing remedies, "This is the remedy of cleansing. For those who feel as if they had something not quite clean about themselves. Often it is something of apparently little importance…”
It affected sperm quality but with the right remedy, all stickiness and cloying of the semen was released, within days of crab apple’s gentle lift. Boom! The much-desired pregnancy was on.
Now I never heard this part of the story until this week. In fact I lost touch completely. Even Susan had heard nothing in the intervening years! It turns out that the birth announcement sent to me had gone astray. Susan never got hers either.
Fast-forward more than 12 years and the lovely couple started wondering whatever happened to me or Susan. So they started to search for us. They found Susan first, who sent me an email. They had been to see her and she met the daughter that almost didn’t exist, now quite a teen and, ironically, Susan’s own daughter was about the same age! (no names, so I can tell the story straight).
Thank You!
The astonishing news caught up with me through Susan, who has stayed a fast friend over the years. Finally, through regular mail, I got a sweet card and a thank you letter from the proud Mum and Dad, explaining the whole moving story. Plus, photos in the envelope of the child-that-almost-didn’t-exist.
It brings quite a lump to my throat, when I read and re-read it. I only did what was my job, which is to fix things and fix people. But this special and determined couple are nevertheless deeply and endearingly grateful and I’m glad for such a happy ending and to have played even a small part.
I thought it would be nice to share this story with you, because it is—truly— from the cutting edge of medicine.
