I don’t want to put bad or shocking stories before you and in fact this is NOT a horrible story; it has a great outcome!

But it does concern people who—often through no fault of their own—age very badly and really suffer under care. I know my readers are pretty vibrant and engaged with life to the full (if not, report to my office tomorrow morning!) But this inspiring story may give you something with which to help others, to give them confidence, to help change the stigma of aging and to encourage love and family ties.

This story tells of a lovely French woman, Fiona Lauriol, who rescued her grandmother Dominique, age 101, from a grim old-folks home. The two went off on an unforgettable 18-month camper van road trip around Spain and the old lady grew younger every day. It’s a magical tale!

This is Granny, Age 101!

Ms Lauriol has since recounted their adventure in a book: 101 Ans – Mémé part en vadrouille (101 years-old – Granny goes on a trip) which has sold more than 10,000 copies and which still awaits an English translation. I can’t wait to read it.

The trip took them to Spain, where Dominique Cavanna, Fiona’s then-101-year-old Italian-born grandmother, experienced her first Holy Week, attended her first concert, sang with street artists in Almeria, participated in walking the Camino, basked in hot springs, and went to Portugal. This is after being given one week to live by the incompetent doctors in charge!

“The more we travelled, the more I realized she was coming back to life,” said Fiona. Subsequently, Fiona and her parents went on the road again, in a nationwide camper van trip of nursing homes to raise awareness around old age.

The English newspaper Connexion, (for Brits residing in France) asked Fiona a series of questions. Her answers were sometimes breathtaking!

What has the reaction been so far?

It’s very good feedback because it raises awareness and changes people’s views of old age.

Most people think that at a certain age, we no longer have the desire to live and simply wait for death.

But people still want to live their life to the fullest.

When I told young people that my grandmother saw her first concert aged 102, they began to see older people differently.

If we exclude the elderly from our society, what do we expect them to say about us if we leave them staring at an empty wall waiting for the end?

We are considered old at around 65.

Let’s say someone lives until 105, it means he or she will hear continuously for 40 years that they should be careful in case they break a bone or die.

This is not how anyone should live.

This is a reference to your grandmother’s own situation, when you spotted her in a room six months after you took her out of a care home…

When I spotted her watching that wall with such an empty look in her eyes, it gave me the shivers.

Getting old should not resemble that.

When we decided to take her on a road trip in a camper van, my parents and I first took her on a 40-day road trip as a test.

She did not know what a camper van was, and things went horribly wrong.

She broke her nose near the Lac du Salagou and the operation required stitches.

When there was a hail storm she thought France was being bombarded again.

We never saw the Mediterranean coast, nor were we able to visit her native Italy.

When we came back, I thought she would have never wanted to go through that experience again.

Next morning, she told us: “Ok, I have slept enough. When do we start again?”

When you look at the photos from the start of the trip, she is hunchbacked and knocked out by the medication.

She was struggling to stand on her legs and had lost fifteen kilos.

As the journey went on she looked younger.

Granddaughter and Grandma

When people ask me what the miracle cure is, I tell them it’s having a perspective of the future.

Every day was different and the unexpected was part of the journey.

It took six months to get her back on her feet and six months to be able to leave in a camper van.

Over the first two weeks, I wondered what I had got myself into.

But with a lot of love and patience, you can do so much.

What is your take on health professionals after she defied the official diagnosis for her life expectancy?

My opinion is that beyond a certain age, professionals are no longer interested.

You are told that you are old, that’s it.

I think the diagnosis indirectly takes into consideration the environment she lived in. If I had not taken her out of the care home, she probably would have died within a week.

I think overprotection is the second reason.

The doctor advised me that if she died in my car, I would bear responsibility.

But I thought since she had one week left, my risk was very low.

So you think this overprotection is what leads them inevitably towards… Death.

The elderly are excluded from society, treated as useless and spoken to like babies.

We do not like our parents to speak to us in that way, but this is exactly what we do to them when they reach old age.

One nursing home told us about a 97-year-old lady whose children refused to let her take the hot-air balloon trip she always dreamed of because it was ‘too dangerous’, but who asked her nevertheless to take a flight to Nice to visit them during the summer. (Laughs) That’s the irony of it.

I am fighting this attitude to give the elderly back their place in society, after having more or less excluded them, or implied that they were useless.

Are you the proof that hope springs eternal?

I think so.

I was criticized for having kept up hope, but it may be the combination of hope, love, patience and the desire to live life to the full that allowed her to die peacefully.

You should have seen her face when she went for that eternal sleep. We should all go like that.

She looked like she was having a great dream.

This contrasted with my other grandmother, who died of Charcot’s disease and who suffered a martyr’s death by enduring intensive medication despite the fact that no treatment exists.

My book makes people dream, but once they have read the last page, they will move on.

The only way to change people’s views is to go out into the field and convince them that there is not just one way, that we have to give our time and put humanity back into our society.

We need this because not everyone can go away in a camper van or look after their parents and grandparents.

People want more humanity and communication.

We need more volunteers and more openness to the outside world.

This is a subject that affects the whole of society. It is not a religious or political issue.

Amen, nevertheless Fiona!

A special week for me this week in France. So I thought I’d dust off an old piece and update it, rather than sweat over an original newsletter! It’s as valid as ever and I have added crucial stuff from very recent science…

We are, as they say, “none of us getting any younger”. I look in the mirror some days and thank my lucky stars I know how to keep it going to the max (I’m 77 next birthday!) We Boomers want to go on partying until our last day on earth, right?

To do that best, you need to create for yourself some kind of self-determined anti-aging plan. It’s just like any other goal in life: decide what you want, work out the steps to get it and then do those steps.

The one dumb thing you shouldn’t do is DO NOTHING. That won’t bring any rewards, just crumbly old age.

Here are a few thoughts from me, to help you do just that (not in any particular order of priority). You can change, extend or adapt this in any way you wish.

1. Create and Maintain a Healthy Mental Environment

Develop friends, clubs, family ties and hobbies. Be with people you like, doing stuff you like. It’s crucial. You also need to create yourself some nourishing goals. It’s clear that people with a worthwhile purpose that carries them into the future will go on creating that future, as long as the inspiration lasts!

2. Diet: Track down your personal stressor foods and get off them. I can’t stress enough that this is the number #1 anti-aging factor in the Universe! That also means removing all manufactured foods from your diet and eat only whole foods. Reduce your carbohydrate intake to 100 gr. per day, maximum (2 slices of bread, 3 small potatoes).

On no account eat refined carbohydrates, which means no sodas, ice cream, cookies, cakes, candy, etc. Sugar is one of the WORST aging chemicals known to Man.

3. Make up your mind to do three 40-minute brisk walks every week. Try to make one of them last over an hour. You need to get out of breath and sweat by the finish. This is not time wasted; you’ll get it back in useful years, later in your life. That’s a promise.

4. Develop and strengthen your mind. Nothing gives more certainty of a healthy future than being able to project it in your thoughts. If you stay active and purposeful, with things to look forward to that enjoy, you WILL live beyond average. Read books, do crosswords, and learn a language.

No mind-dumbing activities like watching TV.

5. Do calming and relaxing exercizes. You can try yoga, tai ch’i or meditation. Best of all is Multi-Media Sensory Stimulation (MMSS), using binaural beats and photic driving for brain entrainment, using a device called the Braintap. I have created some very special tracks for you which, as well as reducing stress levels, creates enjoyable and inspiring mind journeys. For example, there is a journey to Atlantis, connecting with Gaia or having an adventure in Avalon.

Find out more here.

6. If you are over 60 and haven’t done it yet, get a saliva test for your hormone levels. Supplement cautiously with a view to raising those which are low. If you can, work in conjunction with a knowledgeable anti-aging doctor.

7. Women, get a bone density screening. It makes a good baseline. The number one factor which determines whether you will get osteoporosis in your later years is where you started out. If your bones are thin at age 40, they will be really thin at age 80. Be sure to take magnesium, at least 350 mg daily. D3 at 5,000 IU daily and you MUST include K2, for safety sake. Try this.

8. Work yourself out a supplements program and be sure to include at least the following:

Omega-3s 2 – 3 gr daily

CoenzymeQ10 200 mg daily

Selenium 100 mcg daily

Acetyl-L-carnitine 500 mg daily

Alpha-lipoic acid 200 mg daily

Vitamin C 5 – 10 gr daily (try Dr. Keith’s Own Super-C)

Vitamin D 2,000 mg daily.

A super-quality multi, such as my own Telovite, will help you get to these figures.

9. Top yourself up with iodine and repeat this from time to time. Aim for about 5 – 10 mg a month.

10. Get Yourself a Far Infra-Red Sauna if you can. This is a great sweat detoxer, to keep your tissues free of accumulations of unwanted chemicals. If you can’t afford one or can’t find room for it at home, seek out a club or society that has one and use it at least once a week.

11. Take NMN if you have a mind. That’s an important precursor to NAD, which is the most important anti-aging molecule found so far. It’s light years ahead of resveratrol!

12. Even better do a “zombie cell detox”. That’s the proper scientific term by the way. It means clean out the old and senescent cells in your body. And YES, it can be done simply and easily. It requires fisetin and some adjuvant, so that it’s more bioavailable. I do a product called Zombie Cell Detox! (Currently out of stock, please stay posted)

13. You need to keep inflammation at bay. The less inflammation the better! You’ll need to take lots of omega-3s, of course. Also good for quenching inflammation, energizing your mitochondria and growing a steady supply of new brain cells (good investment!) Consider getting yourself an intranasal red light device, such as the VIELIGHT NEURO.

Or also consider vagus nerve stimulation.

14. Sleep is crucial. If Sleep, many of you know, is just about the number #1 healing modality in nature. Without enough sleep, you decay fast. THAT’S how important sleep is. So I decided to throw together my thoughts, knowledge and experience into a small but useful book.

It’s a full compendium of sleep science and tips for better rest. We will all be ancestors someday.

16. Finally, find love, even if it’s a non-sexual relationship. Love keeps us all alive because it’s what it means to BE alive! Try to avoid the squabbles which break up relationships because you will need each other in later life. Single and divorced people don’t live as long as couples. I can’t insist you have regular sex, even though it’s very good for you. But if you are alone, or your partner is not up for fun and excitement, you can masturbate regularly, at least 2 -3 times a week, and don’t be ashamed.

In any event, watch and enjoy the movie Our Souls At Night, in which Jane Fonda and Robert Redford appear as elderly neighbors who agree to start sleeping together, just as friends, rather than feel lonely at night. There is no suggestion they have sex together (but the movie doesn’t say it DIDN’T happen either!)

Finally, stay current. This field is changing very swiftly. Try to keep connected with me, since you know I won’t be giving you the hype and baloney from magazines or TV.

It’s not often a mix in my newsletters with my products, but today I am going to do just that. There a vast amount of learning here, especially for us Boomers and it’s time for an update!

Time was (about 10 years ago) when I had the #1 slot on Google for Puereria mirifica. Those days are gone, not because I am no longer one of the world’s leading experts on Pueraria, but because crafty little snots who know how to push themselves to the top of Google, even though they know ZERO medicine, call the shots.

Pueraria mirifica, is a herbal remedy from Thailand. In fact I jokingly call is HRT (Herbal Remedy From Thailand, get it?)

Pueraria mirifica (also related to Kwao Krua and Butea Superba), is a plant found only in Thailand and parts of Burma; 99% is grown in Thailand. Don’t let Chinese growers or online pushers of breast-enlargement creams kid you otherwise!

The region where this plant is grown is remarkable for its low rate of breast cancer and impressive longevity, which alerted scientists to something good going on. The lucky women get to use this local plant and the benefits are enormous and the science is building all the time.

Thai menopausal women, have been using Pueraria Mirifica for 700 years.

Men should use it too, especially as they age, since men are increasingly exposed to old-age estrogens (“male estrogen”).

The active ingredients seem to be miroestrol and deoxymiroestrol. These have been shown to be 3,000 more potent as estrogens than soy isoflavones, which led to my friend Dr. Garry Gordon MD, wisecracking a few years ago, that Pueraria mirifica “Makes Black Cohosh and Red Clover look like placebos”! (Garry was never one for understatement!)

Mirifica means “miracle” and it does seem as if we have a miracle herb on our hands. It counters all the negative effects of estrogen—a big problem in today’s world.

There is no increase in estrogen levels ever found, yet it reverses atrophic vaginitis and in fact, Dr. Christiane Northrup has reported that vaginal tissues become years younger and painful intercourse disappears.

The Problem

What Problem? Well, it is an estrogen mimic and ought to make estrogen dominance worse. But the fact it is doesn’t. It works by attaching to estrogen receptors, so that real estrogen is rendered ineffective, but it does so without stimulating the receptors in a dangerous way.

This is sometimes called estrogen inhibition.

It actually works by the same mechanism as the drug Tamoxifen, to reduce risk of breast cancer cells proliferating. There is much more to research on this incredible story, which it appears should be in the diet of every women from adolescence on, so that we bring breast cancer rates down to those in Northern Thailand, which is proven to be the lowest in the world.

Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs)

Pueraria in one of a group of emergent compounds, which includes the drug Tamoxifen, called selective estrogen receptor modulators or SERMs.

SERMs are called “selective” because they bind to particular estrogen receptors. SERMs do not prevent the production of estrogen, but they help to slow or stop the growth of estrogen-sensitive cancer cells by starving them of a full dose of natural estrogen.

There are other beneficial side effects, such as lowering cholesterol and protecting bone health for post-menopausal women, keeping the skeleton and joints strong and preventing breaks and fractures.

The latest remarkable discovery is that SERMs can protect your telomeres and that is a number one result for anti-aging (more of that in a moment).

Men Too!

Men can benefit too. We know that male estrogen increases through time, while testosterone falls, due to aging, body fat, hormonal replacement, pesticides, nutritional deficiencies, prescription medications and excessive alcohol intake. It’s equivalent to estrogen dominance.

In fact, studies have shown that the estrogen levels of the average 54-year-old man is higher than those of the average 59-year-old women! The end result is that these high levels of estrogen can cause reduced levels of testosterone, fatigue, loss of muscle tone, increased body fat, loss of libido and sexual function, an enlarged prostate and man-boobs.

So Pueraria has potential benefits for men too. It does not produce male breasts and may actually reduce this sign of aging plumpness.

But don’t suppose PM will take the place of good diet, exercise, cutting down on alcohol and losing plenty of weight.

Reversing Aging

This is the bit we are interested in here.

Harvard scientists have taken prematurely aged mice and reversed the toll of time – increasing the size of their shrunken brains, restoring their diminished sense of smell, and turning their graying fur to a healthy sheen.

They did this by using the SERM properties.

The mice were at the very end of their lives and scientists expected no more than to slow or perhaps stabilize the aging process. Instead, they saw a dramatic reversal in the symptoms of aging!

Guess which mouse got the SERM! [these mice are from the same litter!]

The mice were specially developed to be telomere-deficient and aged fast. Just mid-way through the normal lifespan of a mouse, their organs had atrophied, their brains had shrunk, their coats turned gray and shabby and they had lost the ability to detect noxious odors.

But when scientists used a Tamoxifen-clone enzyme to switch the gene back on for a month, many hallmarks of aging seemed to reverse. The fertility of the mice increased, their sense of smell was restored, and their organs were rejuvenated. They literally went into aging reverse. See photo. The mouse on the left once looked like the old crock on the right! But now it looks YEARS younger (in human terms)

Well, the complex enzyme used for this trial is not available commercially and I could not recommend Tamoxifen as a good idea, even if you could get your doctor to prescribe it.

But you can take Pueraria and expect at least some of this beneficial aging effect. In several senses, Pueraria mirifica is a “fountain of youth”.

Dosage and Sources

Menstruating Women

Daily doses of 100 mg to 600 mgs/day, following our current recommended schedule of the 8th day from the start of the monthly menstrual cycle to the 21st day.

Post-Menopausal Women

Daily dosing, with no cycle.

Men

Daily dosing, around 100 mg, with no cycle.

Sum Up Properties Of Pueraria Mirifica

breast firming

counter-acting memory loss

Last week I talked to you about the “speed bumps” that stand in your path to a good, healthy and happy old age. I’ll follow up with some great ideas for flattening out the bumps and having a smoother ride!

You can enjoy an extra twelve to fourteen years of good life! No really! That’s a promise.

It’s not a pill or potion! You just have to take care of yourself properly. Deep down, we all know that if you follow healthy lifestyle options, you will live longer. Not just that but you will enjoy better health in your life.

Now we can boil it down to just 5 essential factors. In a large study, which followed over 78,000 women and over 44,000 men, researchers have shown that if you follow a healthy diet, exercise regularly, don’t smoke, drink moderate amounts of alcohol and maintain a healthy weight you could live more than a decade longer than those who don’t do any of these things.

To be more specific, they defined the five good health habits as never smoking; body mass index (BMI) of 18.5 to 24.9 kg/m2; 30 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day; a high-quality diet (top 40%); and moderate alcohol intake (up to one glass of wine daily for women and two glasses of wine daily for men). Personally, I would say that BMI is not such a good measure as percentage body fat, but that discussion can take place elsewhere.

The good news is that researchers found each factor added around 2 to 3 years of extra life. Cumulatively, that means that life expectancy at age 50 years was 14 years longer for women and 12.2 years extra for men (for women, that’s 93 years average, up from 79, and for men, 87.6 years, up from 74).

Put another way, compared with men and women who lacked any of the five healthy-lifestyle habits, those who had all five enjoyed an 82% lower risk for dying from cardiovascular disease, a 65% lower chance of dying from cancer, and a 74% lower risk of dying from all causes during follow-up. That’s awesome!

And, you know, so much better than popping pills, NONE of which add to your health span!

What you can potentially achieve is exciting. But almost as exciting is that, even by following some of these recommendation, you get measureable benefit, even if just a few extra years! In other words, just do as much as you can. Every step in the right direction will lengthen your life a little.

“Each single lifestyle change you make will help you live longer and better,” commented Jean-Pierre Després, PhD, cardiology research director at the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute at Laval University, Quebec, Canada, and chair of the American Heart Association (AHA) Council on Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health.

If your life is really good—and it should be—then you will want to maximize your stay here on earth. In which case, commit to all five.

It’s Not Just About Lifespan (Longevity)

Lifespan is how long you can expect to live, on average. But there’s a better concept: “health span”. Lifespan is simply how many years you live and breathe. But for over a decade, the Longevity Institute of the University of Southern California (USC) a leading biomedical research center for aging and longevity, has been researching how to improve a person’s health span – the happy part of life prior to the onset of some calamity such as diabetes, heart attack, stroke, cancer, Alzheimer’s and auto-immune diseases.

It’s not the same as Lifespan, obviously. But hopefully nearly the same length of time. Our health span is critical and we want it as long as possible, staying healthy until the very end of life. This is a newer version of the old saying, that anti-aging is not so much about putting years into your life, as putting life into your years!

Many years ago (1997) I wrote a piece entitled “Do You Want To Be An Old Crock Or A Classic Car?” It may help to picture this in terms of the aging of a motor car. Typically, a well-used car will last 10- 20 years and then fall apart, unsafe to be repaired. The better the maintenance, the longer it takes to crumble, naturally; if you omit routine oil changes and other vital tasks, the car will soon fail mechanically. But then some cars, so-called Classic Cars, are in sweet running order and perform reliably when they are 80, 90 or even more than 100 years old. Why is that?

The answer is so obvious, it screams at you: they have been properly looked after.

It’s exactly the same with the human body. You have to ask yourself, do you want to be a classic car or an old “banger”, rusting and clanking away? I doubt anyone in their right mind would choose to be a banger. Yet that is the outlook mentality of anyone who doesn’t begin to take effective care of their health NOW.

Turning Back The Clock

We have one proven advantage over mechanical objects: our bodies can regenerate to a considerable degree. It has been a medical hoax of long standing, to tell people they have to put up with miserable health conditions, just because the doctors don’t know how to cure it. The fact is that if you turn to nature, instead of the drug industry, to look for answers, there are many exciting ways to gain back your health, even after many years of believing you were stuck with it. You probably already know of people curing themselves of arthritis, cancer, heart disease and so on, without resorting to any further drastic medical intervention. These results show the way for us all: you can recover your health!

Add to this the many wonderful breakthroughs in the science of anti-aging, and there is really no good reason, other than self-neglect, to accept the breakdown of old age. People routinely feel a sense of complete life renewal, increased vigor, mental clarity and sexual pleasure. You can—literally—turn back the clock!

In the words of Dr Walter Pierpaoli and Dr William Regeleson: “Ours is the first generation that need not experience senescence, the dismal physical decline now associated with old age. We are the first generation that need not resign ourselves to accepting the fate that our later years will be filled with debility and disease. Ours is the first generation that has the capacity, by resetting our aging clocks, to actually prolong youthful health and vitality into our eighties, nineties, and possibly even our hundreds”.

The appalling toll of unnecessary deaths is simply a measure of the incompetence of a medical profession, which is obsessed with drugs and treating only symptoms, instead of taking effective and proven action directed towards the known causes of these conditions.

It really comes down to what does Nature want for us? As far as she’s concerned, we are supposed to be wandering around in the forest, or on the African veldt, where it all started. We are hunter-gatherers and should eat meat, fish, plants, nuts and seeds.

Sitting still all day long is very bad. So are burgers, pizza and donuts. Boozing isn’t natural, although even wild animals have access to alcoholic fermented fruits at least part of the year (for some fun, search on YouTube for “drunken elephants marula fruit”).

Drunken elephants smashed on fermented marula fruits

As for smoking, Nature doesn’t understand that at all. And being fat just doesn’t happen in the wild.

Sugar is the kiss of death—truly. But so are grains, which turn quickly to soft carbohydrates like glucose. Milk is good for infants; but after a few months it’s nothing more than a sugar food. Skim milk is even worse, by the way: take away the fats and milk is basically just sugar water.

Thing is, these are all what I call “farmer foods”; they have only been in our diet for a few thousand years. In evolutionary terms that’s no more than a blink of an eye.

Forget vegetarianism and veganism; those are cults, not science. We are built as hunter-gatherers and that’s the way to live. I dismiss arguments about teeth and intestinal patterns. The truth comes from archeology, not speculation. Looking at ancient middens we know exactly what paleolithic man ate. From skeletal remains we also know that true paleolithic man was superb physically: tall, muscular, healthy and without a trace of bony malformations, which all appeared when we started to eat more vegetables!

In the last 2 millennia humans had shrunk to a crippled and deformed dwarf status and only regained their average paleolithic height in the late 20th century.

Take these science-based tips to heart and get to work building a vigorous future!

To your good health,

Zombie is a popular buzzword these days. There is a TV show dedicated to Zombies: The Living Dead! But what is a zombie? A creature (usually human) that is more dead than alive. It walks, it talks, it howls… but it doesn’t think!

According to NBC television, Zombies are worth $5 billion a year to the economy!

Doctors and scientists have co-opted the term (jokingly) “zombie cells” to mean aged, senescent cells in our bodies that have outlived their usefulness: they are more or less dead. So, is that a problem?

Well, it turns out it’s a very big problem. Senescent cells are aged cells that stop functioning properly and can cause damage to surrounding tissues. They lose the ability to grow or divide, and yet they refuse to die off, so they are a bit like “zombie cells.”

It’s worse: these senescent cells spew out compounds that incite harmful systemic inflammation, inflicting even more damage. Senescent cells are a major driver of age-related disease and dysfunction. They even accelerate the aging process itself. [Dodig S, Cepelak I, Pavic I. Hallmarks of senescence and aging. Biochem Med (Zagreb). 2019 Oct 15;29(3):030501].

The Dracula Experiment

This is shown by the fact that if we take the blood of young animals and inject it into senile animals (you can’t do this with humans; shades of Dracula!) the older creatures are rejuvenated and act much younger.

That means either there is a “youthful” factor being transferred. Or there is a “senile” factor that is being diluted. It turns out to be the second of the two. As we get older, we accumulate “agedness” factor in the blood. It turns out this senility factor is old and dying cells. If we can remove them, we feel rejuvenated and healthy again.

It doesn’t need blood transfers. We get the same happy result when we do fasting and keto. Keto triggers the removal of aged “zombie” cells, eaten up by macrophages, a process called autophagy (literally: eating self in posh old Greek). This process is sometimes called “cellular housekeeping.”

As a result, we feel vibrant, energetic and healthier than before. We also, coincidentally, get a rush of stem cells too, ready to go to work restoring and repairing the body’s tissues.

That’s why I highly recommend intermittent fasting and keto. BUT IS THERE AN EASIER WAY? Oh, you bet!

There are nutrient compounds called senolytics (posh Greek for age dissolvers). A number of these have been studied and some are really good at “zombie detoxing”, shall we call it!

Check Wikipedia and it says this: A senolytic is among a class of small molecules under basic research to determine if they can selectively induce death of senescent cells and improve health in humans. A goal of this research is to discover or develop agents to delay, prevent, alleviate, or reverse age-related diseases.

The first senolytic substances studied were Dasatinib, Quercetin, Fisetin and Navitoclax. Here I’m going to focus in on Fisetin. Why? Because I’m selling it, silly! Just read on…

Fisetin

Fisetin really is the finest thoroughbred horse in the senolytics stable, destroying dysfunctional senescent cells and extending lifespan by approximately 10% in animal studies.

It is a plant flavonol from the flavonoid group of polyphenols. These are a hot anti-oxidant group of compounds! Fisetin can be found in many fruits and vegetables, where it serves as a yellow/ochre coloring agent, such as in strawberries*, apples, persimmons, onions and cucumbers.

According to a study published in eBioMedicine, an arm of The Lancet: “Of 10 flavonoids tested, fisetin was definitely the most potent senolytic.”

Acute or intermittent treatment of old mice with fisetin reduced senescence markers in multiple tissues. Administration of fisetin to wild-type mice late in life reduced age-related pathology, and extended median and maximum lifespan. [eBioMedicine. Volume 36, P18-28, October 01, 2018]

Here in one image is the result of taking good senolytic drugs (courtesy UK Daily Mail):

There is a lot more to fisetin than just life extension. The article went on to comment “Late life intervention [with fisetin] was sufficient to yield a potent health benefit” in both humans and mice.

Anti-Inflammatory and Other Beneficial Effects

In line with its role as a flavonol, fisetin has powerful anti-oxidant and therefore anti-inflammatory effects. According to the book Role of Flavonoids in Management of Inflammatory Disorders (Editors: Ronald Watson, Victor Preedy. 2019), fisetin “powerfully” reduced markers of inflammation, which benefitted joints and other tissues.

Another book, Regenerative Nephrology (2nd edition, 2021. Editor: Michael Goligorsky), showed that in aging mice (22–24 months), fisetin treatment decreased cellular aging in kidney, liver, fat, and spleen, and reduced levels of circulating senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) factors (don’t even ask!) The mice lived 10% longer. [Yousefzadeh MJ, Zhu Y, McGowan SJ, et al. Fisetin is a seno- therapeutic that extends health and lifespan. EBioMedicine. 2018 Oct;36:18-28].

Fisetin even has a role against cancer, according to a Science Direct review. It helped induce cellular apoptosis (programmed cell death), alone and in conjunction with a chemo-gent: cisplatin. This was against deadly lung cancer cells, so that could be important to many of us. [https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/medicine-and-dentistry/fisetin]

A 2014 study described various flavonoids, such as apigenin, baicalein, cyanidin, fisetin, galangin, hesperetin, luteolin, myricetin, naringenin, phloretin and quercetin, as quite potent inhibitors of DNA methyltransferase activity (that’s good—tumor cells typically exhibit aberrant DNA methylation patterns during malignant transformation)

[Zhang, W., Xu, J. DNA methyltransferases and their roles in tumorigenesis. Biomark Res 5, 1 (2017). https://doi.org/10.1186/s40364-017-0081-z]

Mimicking Caloric Restriction

Reducing food intake through a calorie-restricted diet has been shown to slow aging, extend lifespan, and improve resistance to disease.

Research has identified the cellular pathways that are affected by such a diet. Among other benefits, caloric restriction: And, of course, that helps with weight loss, glucose control and, ultimately, diabetes.

There are 3 main ways that fisetin can help with weight control…

Reduces the activity of mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin), a remarkable substance linked to aging, weight gain, and chronic disease.

Boosts the function of sirtuins (remember resveratrol and that story?)

It helps flip the “fat switch” to OFF, by increasing the activity of the enzyme AMPK.

Fisetin not only has the ability to extend lifespan in preclinical models, it may also reduce the risk for many of the most common chronic illnesses.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S. Most common forms of heart disease are due to inadequate flow of blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the heart, which can lead to a heart attack.

Over the last two years, studies have demonstrated that fisetin can protect the heart from injury. Even after heart attack models, heart cells fare better when fisetin is present.

In one recent study published in the journal Nature, rat heart cells starved for nutrients and oxygen were protected by fisetin, preventing cell death.

And in animal models of heart attack, the extent of heart damage was reduced when treated with fisetin, preserving better heart function.

So We All NEED Fisetin. What Next?

It so happens I have picked up a line of fisetin supplements. I’m even being given the right to use the title “Zombie Cell Detox”!

Some of you took that to mean I was not going to use email communications any more. Don’t worry. Nothing changes. Instagram is an add-on, not a replacement for what I already do!

74-next and Lovin’ Life to The Max!

The interviewer asked a good question: what THREE THINGS do you consider really important, to beat aging and senescence and stay forever young?

First and Second Place were no brainers. I’ll share those another time. But this was one of those escalating lists: you know, where they count down from 3 to 2 to 1! Keep them in suspense for your top choice!

Here’s my number three…

Posture and Movement

Posture is critical. As I told the interviewer, it’s the only one of the three where you can see from 1,000 feet that a person is aged. That characteristic stooped posture id deadly. It compresses your chest and breathing. But it also compresses your mind and spirit. It’s a shrivelling posture and that’s no good. Stand up straight!

And by the way, I pointed out that cell-phone and tablet users adopt the stopped “old person” posture frequently when looking at their screens. Don’t!

Chiropractors even have a name for this new “deformity”: texting neck or anterior head system!

Movement is important too. I’m going to surprise you in a minute with what is THE NUMBER ONE activity that beats dementia (hint: it’s not jogging or golf!).

Daily exercise is important. It stimulates and tones up both body and mind. You know the old saying “healthy body equals healthy mind” (Mens sana in corpore sano). I couldn’t agree more. Exercise releases endorphins, increases circulation and therefore oxygen supply to the brain. Endorphins are natural feel-good substances in our bodies. But don’t just think in terms of swimming, jogging or cycling. Walking is very good and non-stressful.

Dancing is even better, since it has the added joy element, which reminds us we are young at heart and that life after all is great!

A 2003 study from Stamford University showed that dancing especially was valuable for beating signs of dementia! Dancing can lower stress and increase serotonin levels, with an accompanying sense of well-being.

Now it seems dancing can also make us smarter, or at least block the deteriorating brain function of aging, according to a study that was led by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City and published in the New England Journal of Medicine.1

Here are the findings in a nutshell:

It followed senior citizens (75 and older) for a period of 21 years, looking at whether any physical or cognitive recreational activities influenced mind function. Researchers discovered that some activities had a significant beneficial effect on rates of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Other activities had none.

Activities studied were reading books, writing for pleasure, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and playing musical instruments. And they studied physical activities like playing tennis or golf, swimming, bicycling, dancing, walking for exercise and doing housework.

One of the surprises of the study was that almost none of the physical activities appeared to offer any protection against dementia. There can be cardiovascular benefits of course, but the focus of this study was the mind.

However, there was one important exception: frequent dancing offered protection against dementia.

Here are the comparative results:

Reading – 35% reduced risk of dementia

Bicycling and swimming – 0%

Doing crossword puzzles at least four days a week – 47%

Playing golf – 0%

Dancing frequently – risk reduction of 76%.

That’s a huge lowering of risk!

Why Dancing?

Why is dancing better than other activities for improving mental capabilities? Because typical ballroom dancing, where steps and coordination count (sorry boppers!), means a lot of snap decisions, especially for the woman or “follower”, who gets very little warning of what’s coming next.

But men, you can also match her degree of decision-making if you choose to do so.

Here’s how:

Really pay attention to your partner and what works best for her. Notice what is comfortable for her, where she is already going, which signals are successful with her and which aren’t, and constantly adapt your dancing to these observations. That’s rapid-fire split-second decision making.

Don’t lead the same old patterns the same way each time. Challenge yourself to try new things each time you dance. Make more decisions more often. Intelligence: use it or lose it.

Those who fully utilize their intelligence in dancing, at all levels, love the way it feels. Spontaneous leading and following both involve entering a flow state. Both leading and following benefit from a highly active attention to possibilities.

The essence of intelligence is making decisions. The best advice, when it comes to improving your mental acuity, is to involve yourself in activities which require split-second rapid-fire decision making, as opposed to rote memory (retracing the same well-worn paths), or just working on your physical style.

One way to do that is to learn something new. Not just dancing, but anything new. Take a class to challenge your mind. It will stimulate the connectivity of your brain by generating the need for new pathways. Difficult classes are better for you, as they will create a greater need for new neural pathways.

Quick Thinking Is Crucial

Healthy, well-functioning seniors who undertake a type of computerized cognitive training that targets processing speed have a 29% reduced risk for dementia after 10 years, with those completing the most training sessions having the greatest benefit, new results suggest.

Cognitive training that focused on memory or reasoning alone did not significantly reduce the risk for dementia; only speed of reaction (note again what I said above about quick decision making in dancing).

Participants were randomly assigned to one of three types of cognitive training — memory, reasoning, or speed of processing — or to a control group that received no cognitive training.

This was a long study: 10 years, and followed 2785 original participants. Testing and re-testing was carried out at 1,2,3,5 and 10-year intervals. During the decade-long follow-up, 260 participants developed dementia.

Compared with the control group, the risk for dementia was 29% lower in the speed training group. But memory training made no difference to whether an individual developed dementia or not.2

What’s the take home? Fast gaming is probably the way to go. Online computer games specifically targeting seniors and getting them to interact, will probably come on stream during the life of my super-long-life book How To Live Beyond 100 Years. NOTE: When you get to the shopping cart it will say Aging Without Growing Old. SAME BOOK. You will get it called How To Live Beyond 100 Years.

Some people will do anything to stay forever “young” – even if it presents a measurable risk. There are natural ways to fight the signs of aging that don’t put your body in danger!

One of the biggest fads in the past two decades is cosmetic fillers. A “substance” (they vary wildly) is injected into the skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles to fill out specific areas of the face or to make lips look fuller and younger.

These injections – and other more invasive procedures – can affect the entire human body. Many of them (even the ones that seem harmless) can have severe long-term risks that are seen as the “price” of beauty.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) released their statistics in 2016 and it is mind-blowing how drastic things have gotten since the year 2000.

They showed an increase in overall procedures by 115%! Cosmetic fillers represent about 9 million of the minimally-invasive procedures (these include include soft tissue fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removal, and microdermabrasion). Botox alone has shown a 759% rise in use!

Research shows that it could have an impact on your mental (as well as your physical) health. Constantly “sculpting” yourself can become an addiction called body dysmorphic disorder. This is when a person is never satisfied with the way they look or try to radically fight the signs of aging at any cost. They try to achieve “perfection” that always feels just out of reach.

The cost of cosmetic alterations is substantial. Psychology Today wrote a piece on the ASPS report and wondered what that $16 billion that Americans spent in 2016 is trying to “fix.”

Are we so afraid of looking older or unattractive that we’ll do anything, spend anything, to reverse every perceived “defect” that appears?

The Health Repercussions of Cosmetic Fillers

While cosmetic fillers are considered “safe” for the most part, it should come as no surprise that many people have stark reactions to them. The ASPS listed these potential side effects on their website and stated, “Severe complications from dermal fillers are uncommon. Potential risks vary depending on the specific filler used and the relative permanence of the filler substance.”

Reported Side Effects of Cosmetic Fillers

Acne-like skin eruptions

Asymmetry

Bruising, bleeding from the injection site, swelling

Damage to the skin that results in a wound and possible scarring

Infection at the injection site

Lumps

Palpability of the filler under the surface of the skin

Skin rash with itching

Skin redness

Under- or over-correction of wrinkles

Blindness

Skin necrosis (ulceration or loss of skin from disruption of blood flow)

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-11926" src="https://alternative-doctor.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/fight-signs-of-aging-IG.jpg" alt="Some people will do anything to stay “young”.
While plastic surgery (invasive or non-invasive) is an individual choice, there seems to be an almost panicked desire to fight the signs of aging by any means necessary. Surely allergic reactions, facial disfiguration, and nerve damage are worse than wrinkles!

Now there are now reports of severe bacterial infections from cosmetic filler treatments. This should come as no surprise. Some consumers who have had various treatments have developed lumps under their skin that are tender and don’t respond well to treatment. Some of these cases have resulted in lesions, open sores that will not heal.

This is a side effect caused by bacterial infection – in your face.

Your skin is fragile. It’s made up of elastin, hyaluronic acid, and collagen, which combine to give your skin cells a supple, firm, and youthful appearance.

As you age, your body produces fewer of these substances which results in a weaker support system underneath your skin that leads to sagging, a decrease in production of new skin cells that make the skin feel rougher in texture, and wrinkles result from damage (sun exposure, acne, and dehydration) to the outer layer of skin.

Manufacturers found ways to find ways “plump up” the network under your skin. It’s basically an artificial foundation under your skin to mimic the support system you have in your youth.

It’s an illusion of healthy “young” skin that isn’t reality beneath the surface. The treatments are not permanent. Once you get cosmetic fillers, you must keep getting them several times a year to maintain this facade.

The compounds injected range from collagen found in cow skin, lab-created collagen grown from human cells, a synthetic version of the hyaluronic acid you produce naturally, moving the fat from one part of your body (such as your thighs) to another (your face), and many more.

The practice of cosmetic fillers was once used sparingly – and ethically – to rebuild tissue disfigured from accidents, birth defects, and other trauma. The risk in cases like that were understandable, perhaps even preferable.

Companies that make a lot of money from these treatments for no other reason than to offer consumers the chance to fight the signs of aging say the allergic reactions and other side effects are rare. They point to individual cases and suggest that it is the patient’s body – an unknown allergy or compromised immune system – that is at fault.

Never the unnatural injection of toxins into the face…that couldn’t be it!

A study published in the Pathogens and Disease journal disagrees. University of Copenhagen researcher Morten Alhede stated, “Research has now shown that the disfiguring lesions are actually due to bacteria injected in connection with the cosmetic procedure. What is more, we have demonstrated that the fillers themselves act as incubators for infection, and all it takes is as few as ten bacteria to create an ugly lesion and a tough film of bacterial material – known as biofilm – which is impossible to treat with antibiotics.”

Not only is there an infection in your face from this stuff, the bacteria themselves are proving to be antibiotic resistant! The companies refuse to admit that the lesions are bacteria related…so they treat the patient with steroids.

Thomas Bjarnsholt, an associate at the University of Copenhagen, explained, “This is actually the worst possible treatment because steroid injections exacerbate the condition and give the bacteria free rein.”

They cause the bacteria that can’t be killed by antibiotics and then throw fuel on the fire!

Quiet About The Risks…

Since the cosmetic surgery industry is hush-hush about the problems surrounding their treatments, experts estimate that between 1-in-100 and 1-in-1000 people end up with a bacterial infection as a result of having cosmetic fillers. That may not seem like much until you remember that approximately 9 million people a year get these treatments.

As Professor Bjarnsholt so eloquently put it, “Most people are unlikely to have any problems undergoing a filler treatment…however, it’s a bit like driving a car: there’s nothing wrong with not wearing your seatbelt as long as you don’t hit anything.”

Love Your Natural (Aging) Skin

You’re going to age. It’s part of life.

Feeding your cells from the inside out, living a healthy lifestyle, and choosing to “baby” your outer self with organic, natural products is far better than injecting some “youth serum” cosmetic filler into your face to fight the signs of aging!

When was the last time a doctor asked you about positive symptoms? Ha ha! I thought not. But this doctor is very interested in floating the idea of positive signs of good health!

Of course the conventional medical doctor concentrates only on negative symptoms, which point to some disease or other. That’s what they do; it’s the benchmark of their career. Indeed, it would not be possible to function as a good physician if you were not familiar with a vast number of possible symptoms: headache, cramps, diarrhea, skin rash, joint pain and fatigue… these are signals that something is wrong.

Certain combinations of symptoms we call a “syndrome” and these recur from patient to patient. For example sore throat, dry hot skin, fever, widespread redness of the skin but obvious pallor around the mouth would make any decent doctor think immediately of scarlet fever, a specific type of streptococcal infection.

That’s a syndrome. Losing weight, coughing, torrential night sweats is another grouping. It sounds like tuberculosis.

So what is a positive symptom? It’s almost an oxymoron but, since I thought up the idea, I get to define it. A positive symptom is some change or signal from within body and mind that tells you all is well (or even better than OK, super-duper OK!)

Examples of positive symptoms: delight, carefree excitement, freedom, clean tongue, abundant energy, clear skin, bright eyes, firm nails (non-brittle) and hair in silky condition, calm, relaxed, centered. The most important by far among those suggestions is abundant energy. I have said often: if you don’t leap out of bed in the morning, vibrant with energy and enthusiasm, you are sick! Something is pulling you down…

That “something” may be physical factor, like a deficiency or blockage. But it could also be a stress or emotional thing. Your amygdala (the fear or pleasure center in the lower brain) could be trying to protect you from more ravages of fear, tension, anxiety and stress. So… it simply winds you down, so that you are not so engaged with life.

Either way, lack of vitality is a serious symptom. Of course it is! Just think what it means: vitality = life! (from the Latin vitalitas) So lack of vitality is lowering towards death. Ugh!

That’s why one of the best markers for good health is abundant vitality at any age. At 50 I had the energy and stamina of most twenty five-year olds. I could storm up mountains on my weekend walks and beat almost everyone I encountered to the top. At 60 years old, I felt like a 40-year old. At 70 I felt like a 55-year old. At 80 (I’m not there yet), maybe it will have crept around to feeling like a 70-year old. I dunno: I’m not sure what a 70-year old would feel like! Never accepted that age!

I’m nearly always up with the Sun. I can’t wait to get to my work; I love it!

All of that’s worth tons of supplements, exercize and antioxidants, though I eat well: Vivien is a wonderful cook, as any visitor to our home will attest.

Same In Business

You can apply this same positive symptom principle to any business. In my Supernoetics® writing I call the good signs positive indicators. You can tell if a business is healthy by certain outwards signs, or symptoms, if you like.*

Few or no refund demands would be a good sign. Abundant prosperity margins would be good (not exactly the same as “profits” though). Happy, knowledgeable and productive staff, who care about the company and care about the customers would be a very positive symptom—more so than a positive profit-and-loss sheet from the accountants.

These days, you’d have to say positive Twittering, “sharing” and “liking” in the social media is a good sign for your business endeavors. Steady growth, people asking to work with you, customer referrals and media approval would all be positive signs that your business is flourishing.

Notice I didn’t even mention general income. That’s a dangerous measure to use. It’s a bit like calories in your diet: more isn’t necessarily better. It’s the quality of the calories that count. Sugary, starchy or so-called empty carbs are no good for building health. Similarly, income generated by lying, scamming and short-changing customers is not good income, no matter how much you make in the short term. Sooner or later the bloating will ruin the health of your company. You will crash.

The First Symptom Is The End Not The Beginning

So where are we going with this?

Well, one of the important points to make about positive symptoms, as opposed to negative ones, is that you’ve left things too late if you start with negative symptoms.

People often date the onset of their illness from the first day they were aware of being sick. That’s too late! At that point, it means all your body defenses and protective mechanisms—of which there are many—have been exhausted and can no longer cope. Your body has lost the battle. You have little left to fight back with; your mechanisms are spent.

It’s not newly sick, even though that’s what it feels like; it’s at the end of the line, repair-wise. I wish more people would grasp this point.

Men are notoriously bad at this. But, honestly, I can’t say most women behave that wisely either. People wait until there is a serious problem, before going to the doctor.

Of course you know I don’t want you to go to the doctor. Stay away! But I do want you to start reacting on the first alert, which is always the disappearance of one or more positive symptoms. Do something, whether your preference is for self-help or to go to a good holistic specialist.

You need to act. To wait until real trouble starts is a folly. It’s also denial, which is never clever.

*The exact definition of a symptom is something the patient complains of (like a headache); a sign is something the doctor observes (like swelling of the ankles).

Biological Age

In my book Medicine Beyond, I told you about a concept called biological age. That’s as opposed to the calendar age on your passport or driving license. Your biological age is where your tissues are living, how they feel. So you can be 75 years old but your body is vibrant and healthy, about the same level of metabolism as a 50 year old. That’s good!

But it can go the other way. You might be 50 in calendar age but your body is acting like it’s 75 or more: aching joints, creaking, slow thinking, tiredness, poor skin and already lots of wrinkles. Ugh! (can be improved if you follow good advice).

Diagnosing biological age is something we do on sensitive health detector devices, like the MORA machine or BICOM. There are lots of these electronic beasts, all related to electro-acupuncture. Sometimes the practitioner puts a series of “filters” into the circuit: little ampoules of mesenchyme tissue, which tell your biological age. So we get a nice read on 50. That means it’s resonating with you. You know when you sign or speak near a piano and the instrument starts to whisper back to you? That’s resonance.

It’s done electronically with the machines—but the same idea basically.

Concentrate on how you feel: that’s the best clue to your health and most exactly monitors your biological age. Do all the good things I tell you in these newsletters and you’ll surely live long and feel good.

Meantime, consider my age-survival manual How to Live Beyond 100 Years.

Is Botox® Safe? Does Botox® cures depression? It’s a headline from the Huffington Post, so it must be true, right? (joke)

In fact, the spin-doctors, manufacturing junk truths, have gone as far as suggesting that Botox® will solve Alzheimer’s. I mean…. How nuts does it get? “It’s just another brain problem, so it surely must help,” seems to be the mentality.

That’s like saying baseball is the same as ping pong (well, they both use little round balls, don’t they?)

This is a classic example of falsehood, exaggeration and “headline” mentality in our buzz-infested modern world. Somebody floats a catchphrase and then is goes viral, as they say. Nobody questions the original source of the comment. Suddenly, it is “true”.

Of course Botox®, the commercial label for injectable botulinum toxin, is one of the deadliest poisons known. How can that “cure depression”? Even the question is foolish. But this must be a dream buzz for the manufacturers of Botox®, who are already being lashed with lawsuits, because of brain damage it causes.

The truth is that feeling good about yourself relieves depression, almost by definition. Improving our wrinkled, sagging looks is a great way to feel better about yourself. No problem there; of course that cheers anyone up.

But Botox® did it? No way!

Botox® is the worst imaginable way to get rid of lines, sagging and wrinkles. The study claims to have eliminated this issue. The people selected (it said) were past caring about their looks. It wasn’t getting rid of the lines, it was the administration of Botox®.

You kidding me? How is anyone past caring about their looks?

A recent study showed depression speeds up the progression that leads from mild cognitive impairment to full-blown dementia. And looking awful, fighting aging, is a way to feel depressed, for sure!

Improving your looks is great medicine! I already wrote about this weeks ago and pointed out why Botox® is a very bad idea: brain damage for a start; permanent paralysis for another.

In the absurd and unlikely event that Botox® injections could—somehow—cure depression and/or help Alzheimer’s, I know something that’s much more effective, far cheaper and is NOT permanently damaging. I’ll tell you about it lower down.

So What Was This Study?

A team of researchers based at the Psychiatric Hospital of the University of Basel, Switzerland and the Department of Psychiatry, Medical School Hannover, Germany, found that injecting botulinum toxin into the muscles just above the nose and between the eyes: the toxin inhibits the activity of the “frown line” muscles.

15 patients had the Botox®, 15 had just saline (placebo). These were patients who had not previously benefited from standard anti-depressant prescription medication.

Remarkable improvements in mood were achieved after just one injection. Six weeks after a single treatment depression for Botox® recipients were reduced on average by 47.1% while the placebo treated group experienced only a 9.2% reduction.1

The absurd claim, which is not scientifically justifiable, is to say that eliminating the frown—and even the feeling of frowning—does not benefit the person. Therefore it’s the magic of Botox® itself that did it! C’mon. Supposedly, the subjects recruited were suffering from long-standing clinical depression and they were selected as a group unconcerned with their facial appearance.

Can you imagine such a group of people? Were they blind?

The muscles that were injected paralyze the muscles just above the nose, between the eyebrows. That eliminates the frown (see image):

Look at all those wrinkles in the middle of the forehead. The scientists are trying to claim that the effect of no change would have the same value to a patient as those wrinkles gone. You can see straight away it’s dishonest. There was a placebo but not a blind outcome: the patient would know straight away something changes.

As to the next argument: that the disappearance of such lines could not possibly cheer up the patient, what do you think?

Thing is, there is an old psychology principle. If you do cheerful things with your body, you’ll feel cheerful. If you dance, you cheer up! If you SMILE, you cheer up (that’s an important one): it’s said that if you look UP, you can’t feel depressed!

Obviously, getting rid of those miserable frown folds will also cheer up a person. Duh! If your face looks younger OF COURSE you will be cheered up.

Or could it be that Miss World doesn’t like winning at all? She doesn’t feel good when crowned Queen of The Lookers?

In 2011, Miss Venezuela, apparently cried when she was announced Miss World.
No doubt she cheered up, after thinking about the $millions in appearances!

What About Surgery?

In an article entitled Could Aesthetic Surgery Impact Alzheimer’s Risk? Foad Nahai, MD, FACS, is a Professor at the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta suggested that if people have a negative attitude to aging and to their own appearance, this can have adverse effects on their mental health.

Those who feel good about themselves even seem to live longer. As evidence, Dr. Nahia points to a 2001 Mayo Clinic study of 250 women with an average age of 60 who had face-lifts between 1970 and 1975.

Although life expectancy at the time was 73, the average age of those that had died was nearly 81¾, while two-thirds of the group were still alive with an average age of 84.2

The face-lift patients had a life expectancy more than a decade beyond the general female population. But the study begs the question of whether people in this group are more affluent or simply take better care of themselves?

Affluent people in general live longer. And it seems likely that people who care enough about their looks to have a facelift would also develop healthy habits, e.g. keeping their weight down.

Better Ways Of Getting The Botox Effect

I believe that people who care about themselves and take care of themselves are a group of conscious, intelligent individuals who want to influence outcomes in their own favor. These are my kind of people!

There are ways to influence your looks, and thus how you feel about yourself, that do not require surgical tucks or the injection of poisonous substances.

The modern trick is to use what we call micro-current therapy (MCT). Instead of paralyzing your facial muscles, you tone them up to be firm and strong again, like in the days when you were younger.

With that in mind, I have been discussing this approach to aging and wrinkles with my world-class colleague, Dr John Hache of Pacific Health Options in Vancouver. We already did two webinars, which proved hugely popular. If you missed the latest webinar, check out the replay video here.

Once again I show you how the regular use of simple, safe and (in comparison) inexpensive devices, used properly, will tone the muscles of your face to the point where you look and feel years younger.
