We all fear it. Well, maybe not all, but we must honestly admit that, as elders, we are vulnerable, without knowing and understanding all the trigger factors. Certainly good living, regular activity, right eating and positive attitude are key to helping fend off disaster.

But in my unique position I know of lots of individuals who should have been OK (all the positive lifestyle factors in place) yet were not. It means there is still a lot to be learned.

Now, couple that with recent studies which purportedly showed that getting a shingles vaccination was partially protective against Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Do we care? What is it telling us? Are we impressed even?

Shingles you probably know is an extension of childhood chickenpox, caused by the varicella-zoster virus (aka. Herpes zoster). It becomes re-activated in later life as a burning, itchy sometimes painful, rash, which can usually be seen lying along the pathway of nerves. Not surprising, since the virus hangs out for years in the peripheral nerves.

One very painful outcome is a condition called post-herpetic neuralgia. Treatment for that has at times reached desperate measures, including repeatedly hitting the painful part with mallets when I was at med school! Personally, I always found that homeopathic Ranunculus did the job of clearing it very well.

Obviously then, because it’s unpleasant, shingles became a natural target for a vaccine. Eventually in 2017 we got Shingrix, from Glaxo-Smith-Kline. It is claimed to reduce the incidence of shingles in adults by over 90%.1

So far, so good. Lots of profits for us and less pain and trouble for the patients!

Understand, these reductions are not massive (2-5% range) but it does indicate something is going on. But what?

Certainly the focus is on brain tissue. The varicella-zoster virus hangs out in the nervous system, as I said. Logically if there is a commotion of inflammation due to a latent virus, brain harm becomes a very real possibility. Blocking that virus from causing inflammation, as with a vaccine, makes sense.

Thus a study published June 16, 2026 in the Annals of Internal Medicine indicates 1 in 17 dementia cases could possibly be prevented by shingles vaccination. Patients in nursing facilities who had received at least one dose of the shingles vaccine within a year of admission had a 5.8% lower risk of developing dementia over the next four years, according to health records of more than 509,000 people, ages 66 and older, who had been admitted to U.S. nursing facilities from 2017 through 2022.2

A study of more than 282,000 older adults in Wales, published in Nature in 2025, found shingles vaccination was associated with a 3.5% reduction in dementia risk.3

Other studies have yielded comparable results.

In reverse, a study published last year in the Journal of Prevention of Alzheimer’s Disease found that older adults in Italy, hospitalized with severe shingles, had a 13% higher risk of dementia compared to the general population!

Any Old Vaccine?

But here’s the thing. It doesn’t need to be a Herpes zoster vaccine. A startling recent study showed that having the BCG (anti-TB) vaccine also gave some protection against dementia!

It is known that BCG (and probably other vaccines) bolster what is known as “innate” immunity, that is the body’s anti-infection protection measures that do not depend on an antibody response. This very important mechanism is, of course, ignored by Big Pharma and vaccine manufacturers. It doesn’t fit their profit model.

They apply for approval based on tests which show that their vaccine induces antibodies. They don’t have to show it protects against any disease, as indeed is the case with measles, only that it produces antibodies. It’s a joke really. We can’t say how much good antibodies do but we can say YOU DON’T NEED THEM! Individuals with a condition called agammaglobulinemia, who are essentially void of B cells and so cannot produce any antibodies, nevertheless acquire normal antigen-specific memory T-cell responses, proving that antibodies are not the sole basis of long-term immune memory.4

This demonstrates conclusively to me that innate or cellular immunity is far more powerful than “acquired” or antibody-based immunity. Yet doctors continually play down innate immunity.

BCG is known to induce “trained immunity,” a form of long-lasting reprogramming of innate immune responses of the non-antibody type. That’s slightly different from the memory of acquired immunity, as I say.

A pilot study provided evidence that BCG vaccination can alter immune activity not only in the blood, but also in immune cells found in the cerebrospinal fluid, the fluid which surrounds and bathes the brain and spinal cord.

“This study was not designed to show that BCG prevents or treats Alzheimer’s disease,” the lead author pointed out. “It was small, open-label, and designed to look at safety and biological mechanisms. But it gives us a biologically grounded rationale for testing whether immune training with BCG could be useful as an early prevention strategy for Alzheimer’s disease.”5

Beyond Plaques and Tau Proteins

The media—and you would think 90% of the medical profession—appear to be fixated on amyloid plaque and tau proteins as the “cause” of Alzheimer’s, which is nonsense.

In fact the abnormalities are likely the body’s own fight-back response and are therefore a good thing.

Alzheimer’s research suggests that the disease is really about immune aging, impaired clearance mechanisms, and chronic neuroinflammatory dysfunction. The role vaccines play in these processes is unclear, but a growing body of literature supports protective associations between vaccines targeting pathogens like influenza, pneumonia, or herpes zoster (shingles) and Alzheimer’s risk.

Yes, to cap it all, it is now emerging that the flu vaccine may give some protection against AD. One wonders where this is going to end!

In one particular study, they chose 65+ years individuals from 2009 to 2019 with a median follow up of 46 months. There were 935,887 matched pairs; 47,889 in the vaccinated group and 79,630 in the unvaccinated group. 5.1% of the vaccinated group developed AD and 8.5% in the unvaccinated group, showing a clear benefit for flu vaccination.

You could argue that was a 40% reduction of risk, which drug companies usually do. But really it is only a reduction of 3.4% overall.

It means we’d have to vaccinate 29 people to save one patient. Not so impressive.

But I’m bringing all this up about vaccines for a reason. A few years ago I raised the question: Is dementia something you “catch”; like a viral illness maybe?

In 2016 I wrote about a series of fascinating studies highly suggestive of the fact that Herpes simplex #1 (HSV1) virus might be a contagious cause of AD. The work was done by Ruth Itzhaki, professor emeritus of molecular neurobiology at Britain’s University of Manchester (where I qualified in medicine!), and her figures were pretty persuasive.

In March 2016, Itzhaki and a world-wide group of researchers published an editorial in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, asking the scientific community to consider a proposed link between Alzheimer’s and certain microbes, notably herpes simplex virus Type 1 (HSV-1), Chlamydia pneumoniae and spirochetes.6

Big Pharma wanted the research stifled because it was contrary to their amyloid plaque reduction drugs approach and resultant enormous profits.

Prof. Ruth Itzhaki made it to the prestigious Status List of leaders for 2025. I’ve been championing her work for over a decade.

So although Itzhaki and her lab published their first paper in 1991 finding a clear HSV-1 link to Alzheimer’s and there have been over 100 published studies since then, from her lab and elsewhere, the research has gone nowhere.

Out of the $589 million allocated to Alzheimer’s research by the National Institutes of Health in 2015, exactly zero appeared to be spent on studying the proposed HSV-1 connection.

So they can go on saying “there’s no scientific proof” because there isn’t any; they are making sure of that.

Nearly all of us carry the Herpes simplex virus 1 or HSV-1 (the one that causes cold sores), our peripheral nervous system serves as its dormant nesting ground. From there, HSV-1 can reactivate and occasionally cause mild flare-ups of disease, typically when our immune system is overwhelmed due to stress or other infections. Itzhaki’s lab, however, found that by the time we reach our golden years, the virus often migrates to the brain, where it remains capable of resurrecting itself and wreaking a new sort of havoc when opportunity presents, such as when our immune system wavers in old age.

Itzhaki’s team has discovered the presence of HSV-1 in the telltale amyloid plaques used to diagnose Alzheimer’s, so I think she’s onto something here.

It’s probably not a case of a straightforward viral presenting symptom but rather that viral and/or bacterial infections are just one ingredient in a soup of risk factors. But for Alzheimer’s, HSV-1 could be especially significant. Itzhaki has found that elderly people who carried both HSV-1 in the brain and the e-4 subtype of the APOE gene (responsible for creating a protein that helps transport cholesterol throughout the body) were 12 times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than people without either.

In a 1997 paper in The Lancet, Itzhaki’s group concluded that HSV-1 infection, in conjunction with APOE-e4, could account for about 60 percent of the Alzheimer’s cases they studied. Due to limited funds, however, her group was able to study only a relatively low number of cases.7

“If more funding had been available, more information would probably have been obtained, providing even more supportive data,” she says.

So, circling back to the vaccine benefit issue, I ask: is it possible that the vaccine brings on a more general immune response which leads to a reduction or slowing inflammation caused by other viruses, such as HSV-1?

In the case of the shingles vaccine, and if Itzhaki is right, then would it not make sense that giving an anti-Herpes shot could maybe calm or hold back inflammation due to a latent colony of the same family? And that vaccines aimed at other organisms, if they were effective via the cellular memory mechanism, could also, logically, bring about a certain degree of relief!

I think so. I hope so because, for all their clumsiness and stupid man-made additional dangers, vaccines essentially play to nature’s own skills!

Stay sharp!

When most people think about getting older, they think about wrinkles. Grey hair. A few extra pounds around the waist. Perhaps stiff joints or failing eyesight. But scientists are increasingly pointing to something quite different.

The real marker of ageing may not be your face at all. It may be your muscles.

That might sound surprising. We tend to think of muscles simply as the machinery that moves us about. They help us climb stairs, lift shopping bags and get out of a chair. Useful, certainly—but hardly exciting.

Yet this old view has been turned upside down.

Today, muscle is increasingly recognized as one of the body’s most important organs. In fact, many researchers now describe skeletal muscle as an endocrine organ—a tissue that manufactures and releases hundreds of powerful messenger molecules known as myokines. These tiny chemical signals travel throughout the body, influencing inflammation, blood sugar control, immunity, bone strength, heart health and even the function of the brain.

Your muscles aren’t simply carrying you through life. They’re talking to every organ you possess. That’s extraordinary.

Even more extraordinary is what happens when we begin losing them.

Most people begin to lose muscle mass surprisingly early. The process can start in the thirties, gathering pace after fifty and accelerating still further after sixty. Doctors call this gradual decline sarcopenia, but you don’t need to remember the name.

Just remember the consequences.

Less muscle means poorer balance. Greater frailty. Slower recovery from illness. Increased risk of diabetes. More falls. More fractures. More dependency. Even maybe a shorter lifespan.

It isn’t simply that weak muscles make us old. Weak muscles seem to help make us ill. I bet you never read that before!

One of the simplest tests of future health isn’t a complicated blood analysis or an expensive body scan.

It’s grip strength.

Again and again, studies have shown that people with stronger handgrip tend to live longer, recover better from illness and enjoy greater independence well into old age. Grip strength predicts future disability so consistently that many geriatricians now regard it as one of the most useful indicators of biological ageing. Now you can understand why this is so!

A handshake may reveal more about your future than your wrinkles ever could. Think about that.

The story becomes even more fascinating when we look inside the muscles themselves.

Every time you contract a muscle—whether walking briskly, lifting weights, digging the garden or climbing a hill—it begins producing myokines. These remarkable substances help dampen excessive inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity, stimulate repair mechanisms and encourage healthy communication between organs.

Scientists have even nicknamed one of these molecules “exercise in a pill” because of the extraordinary benefits it appears to deliver.

Of course, there is no pill. The muscle has to do the work.

Perhaps the most exciting discovery concerns the brain. For decades we believed that exercise helped memory simply because it improved blood flow. Now we know much more.

Active muscles release substances that encourage the brain to produce new nerve connections and protect existing brain cells. Exercise also increases production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), often called “fertilizer for the brain.” This helps support learning, memory and resilience.

In other words, your muscles help feed your mind. Perhaps this explains why physically active people have lower rates of dementia than those who remain sedentary. The muscles and brain are in constant conversation.

Here is another surprise. Muscle is one of the largest consumers of blood sugar in the entire body. Healthy muscle acts like a huge sponge, soaking glucose out of the bloodstream without demanding excessive insulin. In other words, counter-diabetes.

Lose muscle and the sponge shrinks. Blood sugar begins rising. Insulin resistance develops. Type 2 diabetes follows ever more easily. This may explain why resistance training has become one of the most effective non-drug approaches to improving blood sugar control.

The medicine isn’t sitting inside a bottle. It’s attached to your skeleton. Haha!

Your bones benefit too. For years we’ve been told to think about calcium. Calcium certainly matters but as my friend Tom Levy points out, calcium is DEATH, literally. We don’t want too much calcium. It causes crusting and aging of joints. It slowly infiltrates and damages heart circulation too (coronary artery calcification tests predict aging and death).

Vitamin D matters for bone.

Vitamin K2 matters.

Magnesium. Boron.

But none of these works particularly well if the bones are never challenged. Bones respond to pull. When muscles contract, they tug against bone. This mechanical stress tells the skeleton to remain dense and strong. Without that message, bone quietly dissolves away.

Muscles literally tell bones to stay alive.

Perhaps the greatest misconception is that muscle belongs only to athletes or bodybuilders. Nothing could be further from the truth. You don’t need enormous biceps. You don’t need six-pack abs (uuggh!)

You don’t need to join a gym if you dislike gyms. The goal is not bodybuilding. The goal is preserving the engine that keeps every other system functioning.

Fortunately, muscles remain astonishingly adaptable.

Even people in their seventies, eighties and nineties can increase muscle strength significantly. Numerous clinical trials have shown that resistance exercise performed just two or three times each week improves balance, walking speed, confidence and independence.

The body never completely forgets how to rebuild itself. You simply have to ask.

So how do we protect this hidden organ?

First, use it.

Here’s me building some muscle on Waikiki beach

Walking is wonderful for the heart and circulation, but muscle particularly responds to resistance. That resistance may come from weights, resistance bands, gardening, climbing stairs, swimming, rowing, carrying shopping, yoga or simply repeatedly standing up from a chair.

Challenge creates adaptation.

Second, feed it. Many older adults simply do not consume enough protein. Good-quality protein provides the amino acids required for muscle repair and growth. Fish, eggs, meat, dairy products, beans, lentils and other protein-rich foods all have a role.

Third, don’t fear ageing itself. One of the saddest myths is that losing strength is inevitable. It isn’t. Some decline occurs naturally, certainly. But much of what we call aging is really disuse.

See, we’re typically taught that we are weaker because we are older. But it’s the wrong way round. We are older because we let ourselves get weaker!

The body is astonishingly economical. If we stop asking muscles to work, they conclude they are no longer required. So they quietly disappear.

The good news is that they are surprisingly willing to come back.

Perhaps we should stop asking, “How old are you?” Instead, we should ask, “How much useful muscle have you kept?” That answer may tell us far more.

As medicine advances, we are beginning to realize something deeply encouraging: Health is not merely the absence of disease. It is the presence of reserve.

• Reserve in the heart.

• Reserve in the lungs.

• Reserve in the immune system.

• Reserve in the mind.

• And reserve in the muscles.

Your muscles are far more than motors.

• They are chemical factories.

• Sugar regulators.

• Anti-inflammatory pharmacies.

• Bone builders.

• Brain boosters.

• Perhaps even guardians of longevity.

So if you’re looking for one of the best anti-ageing investments you can make this year, don’t think in terms of yet another expensive cream or another miracle supplement. Start with the remarkable organ you’ve been carrying around all your life. It has been waiting patiently for your attention.

And the wonderful thing is this: It is never too late to answer the call.

Get up, get about, walk, cycle, swim or play sports. You’ll be glad you did!

Now, where’s my tennis racket…

To your good health,Prof. Keith Scott-Mumby

Most of my subscribers are Baby Boomers (1945 – 1964). Then there are the millennials, so-called. Younger than that are the X-generation (1965 – 1980); I think there is even a Y-generation (1981 – 1996) and Z (1997 – 2012), according to USA Today.¹

We are now the D-generation! (degeneration, get it!)

It’s true, we are getting steadily older and (some of us) a bit crumblier, as the years go by. It varies: we have good folks dancing in their 90s and some in their 50s who can barely walk.

Whatever… the indignities of age are stalking us and we need to keep them at bay.

One of the most evident symptoms of age is the question of pain and mobility, by which I mean arthritis. That too is variable; we have centenarians who walk tall and display little stiffness; while some unlucky individuals stoop and shuffle from 60 onwards. You can almost hear them creaking as they move about!

Of course musculoskeletal issues can strike at any age. Arthritis can strike children, where it is obviously not aging at work. The one thing I want you to grasp is that, for the majority of us, NOTHING is inevitable. Mother Nature heals, as you’ll often hear me say. It’s just that the process gets more difficult as the years advance. And, let’s face it, we never quite get back to how it was when we were younger!

Arthritis is a typical feature of aging. Idiot doctors put it down to wear and tear. But that’s nonsense, as the busy, active and flexible nonagenarians and centenarians prove. I’m not saying the pain and stiffness don’t exist. It does if you have a touch of arthritis. I’m just saying the explanation doesn’t hold water.

Listen, in all my years there have been many patients who had joint damage VISIBLE ON X-RAY and yet who recovered and got rid of the pain and limitation. In fact I used to use my old Wonder Question: DO YOU EVER HAVE PAIN-FREE DAYS?

If the person can answer YES (and many do) then there is nothing permanently wrong. What’s more, you can begin to doubt that bony changes on an x-ray are actually causing the pain! Otherwise why would the pain have an on-off pattern?

So What Is Pain and Stiffness, Really?

Inflammation! Every youngster starting out a med school learns the signs of inflammation: pain, swelling, redness and heat (which we learn in glorious Latin: dolor, tumor, rubor and calor). There’s another element thrown in as an after-thought: loss of function (functio laesa). An inflamed joint won’t work as well as it should.

The corollary is that, if you can quench the inflammation, the pain, redness, swelling etc. goes away! And we know a lot more about calming inflammation these days than we did when I was at med school. Then there was aspirin and acetominophen (tylenol, paracetomol). If it was really severe, then corticosteroids may be brought into action.

Now we have a wealth of herbals, for example, many of which have good science and sometimes these more traditional remedies out-perform regulated medical drugs. They are certainly a lot safer too.

Take curcumin. You’ll have heard of its formidable anti-inflammatory powers. It’s not that well absorbed but heck: it’s cheap and plentiful!

Boswellia (frankincense) is another one with solid science. I’d always take these in preference to NSAIDs.

But there’s also ashwaganda, astragalus, cat’s claw (Uncaria tomentosa), licorice root, Fenugreek, Aloe vera and, one of my absolute favorites, Calendula. The latter I often administer as a homeopathic treatment. Homeopathic Calendula cream is WONDERFUL for burns (including sunburn)!

If you suffer with pain and haven’t explored all these possibilities yet, I urge you to experiment with them. You don’t need a doctor’s script!

Garcinia kola. This is yet another herb that has scientific backing. A 2008 study compared its use to Naproxen (Advil, a NSAID), Celebrex (a COX-2 inhibitor) and placebo. It was just as good but without any side effects. Whereas NSAIDs are plagued with gastrointestinal bleeding and an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, including myocardial infarction and stroke, which can be fatal.²

From https://urubeed.com/bitter-kola/
Garcinia kola contains some caffeine so it will brighten you up!

Joint Support

One thing I’ve learned over the years, from others and even from my own experience of knee pain after driving a car for 6 weeks with stiff, badly-aligned pedals, is that joints must be supported. Meaning there must be enough muscle strength around the joint to support it.

In fact it’s a preliminary treatment I suggest to anyone who is relatively inactive: to get some use out of the joint. By building the muscles, the joint is protected throughout its range of movement.

Believe it or not, my clinical experience is now backed up by a proper study of a tailored 12-week joint strengthening program from China. It found exercize was superior to NSAID treatments Celebrex, diclofenac and naproxen (Advil).

Study lead author Dr. Jing Chao of Hebei Medical University explains, “This study shows that exercise rehabilitation provides significant improvements in pain, other symptoms, and quality of life compared to that achieved by conventional treatments.”³

It might seem strange, working a painful joint to reduce the pain! But of course if you want to try this, you go gently at first and build up. Don’t do squats. They put huge pressure on the knee joint. Just walk!

Electronic Healing

Then we have some amazing new devices to help with healing of all kinds. But they basically stop inflammation, which leads to pain relief, as well as healing in other terms.

Chief among these, I would put the microcurrent (MCT) machines, such as the Avazzia family (formerly the Russian SCENAR). I regularly put out webinars on this family of devices and you can look at the latest video here.

I’m not quite so sanguine about TENS machines. It seems to me that the main mode of action is to make the nerves refractory (C pain fibers won’t fire off as they should). I say this somewhat timorously because my friend Normal Shealy invented TENS and he’s very proud of it!

Another class of electronic machines are those which use PEMF (pulsed electro-magnetic therapy; sometimes PEME or pulsed electro-magnetic energy). These flood the body with friendly energies. OK, but it always seems to me to be a bit like drugs (meds), that you hit the whole body with a “cure” whereas the actually problem may be just a headache, sore hip, bellyache or some other small area!

Anyway, let’s keep degeneration in check.

Regards,Prof. Keith Scott-Mumby

I don’t want to put bad or shocking stories before you and in fact this is NOT a horrible story; it has a great outcome!

But it does concern people who—often through no fault of their own—age very badly and really suffer under care. I know my readers are pretty vibrant and engaged with life to the full (if not, report to my office tomorrow morning!) But this inspiring story may give you something with which to help others, to give them confidence, to help change the stigma of aging and to encourage love and family ties.

This story tells of a lovely French woman, Fiona Lauriol, who rescued her grandmother Dominique, age 101, from a grim old-folks home. The two went off on an unforgettable 18-month camper van road trip around Spain and the old lady grew younger every day. It’s a magical tale!

This is Granny, Age 101!

Ms Lauriol has since recounted their adventure in a book: 101 Ans – Mémé part en vadrouille (101 years-old – Granny goes on a trip) which has sold more than 10,000 copies and which still awaits an English translation. I can’t wait to read it.

The trip took them to Spain, where Dominique Cavanna, Fiona’s then-101-year-old Italian-born grandmother, experienced her first Holy Week, attended her first concert, sang with street artists in Almeria, participated in walking the Camino, basked in hot springs, and went to Portugal. This is after being given one week to live by the incompetent doctors in charge!

“The more we travelled, the more I realized she was coming back to life,” said Fiona. Subsequently, Fiona and her parents went on the road again, in a nationwide camper van trip of nursing homes to raise awareness around old age.

The English newspaper Connexion, (for Brits residing in France) asked Fiona a series of questions. Her answers were sometimes breathtaking!

What has the reaction been so far?

It’s very good feedback because it raises awareness and changes people’s views of old age.

Most people think that at a certain age, we no longer have the desire to live and simply wait for death.

But people still want to live their life to the fullest.

When I told young people that my grandmother saw her first concert aged 102, they began to see older people differently.

If we exclude the elderly from our society, what do we expect them to say about us if we leave them staring at an empty wall waiting for the end?

We are considered old at around 65.

Let’s say someone lives until 105, it means he or she will hear continuously for 40 years that they should be careful in case they break a bone or die.

This is not how anyone should live.

This is a reference to your grandmother’s own situation, when you spotted her in a room six months after you took her out of a care home…

When I spotted her watching that wall with such an empty look in her eyes, it gave me the shivers.

Getting old should not resemble that.

When we decided to take her on a road trip in a camper van, my parents and I first took her on a 40-day road trip as a test.

She did not know what a camper van was, and things went horribly wrong.

She broke her nose near the Lac du Salagou and the operation required stitches.

When there was a hail storm she thought France was being bombarded again.

We never saw the Mediterranean coast, nor were we able to visit her native Italy.

When we came back, I thought she would have never wanted to go through that experience again.

Next morning, she told us: “Ok, I have slept enough. When do we start again?”

When you look at the photos from the start of the trip, she is hunchbacked and knocked out by the medication.

She was struggling to stand on her legs and had lost fifteen kilos.

As the journey went on she looked younger.

Granddaughter and Grandma

When people ask me what the miracle cure is, I tell them it’s having a perspective of the future.

Every day was different and the unexpected was part of the journey.

It took six months to get her back on her feet and six months to be able to leave in a camper van.

Over the first two weeks, I wondered what I had got myself into.

But with a lot of love and patience, you can do so much.

What is your take on health professionals after she defied the official diagnosis for her life expectancy?

My opinion is that beyond a certain age, professionals are no longer interested.

You are told that you are old, that’s it.

I think the diagnosis indirectly takes into consideration the environment she lived in. If I had not taken her out of the care home, she probably would have died within a week.

I think overprotection is the second reason.

The doctor advised me that if she died in my car, I would bear responsibility.

But I thought since she had one week left, my risk was very low.

So you think this overprotection is what leads them inevitably towards… Death.

The elderly are excluded from society, treated as useless and spoken to like babies.

We do not like our parents to speak to us in that way, but this is exactly what we do to them when they reach old age.

One nursing home told us about a 97-year-old lady whose children refused to let her take the hot-air balloon trip she always dreamed of because it was ‘too dangerous’, but who asked her nevertheless to take a flight to Nice to visit them during the summer. (Laughs) That’s the irony of it.

I am fighting this attitude to give the elderly back their place in society, after having more or less excluded them, or implied that they were useless.

Are you the proof that hope springs eternal?

I think so.

I was criticized for having kept up hope, but it may be the combination of hope, love, patience and the desire to live life to the full that allowed her to die peacefully.

You should have seen her face when she went for that eternal sleep. We should all go like that.

She looked like she was having a great dream.

This contrasted with my other grandmother, who died of Charcot’s disease and who suffered a martyr’s death by enduring intensive medication despite the fact that no treatment exists.

My book makes people dream, but once they have read the last page, they will move on.

The only way to change people’s views is to go out into the field and convince them that there is not just one way, that we have to give our time and put humanity back into our society.

We need this because not everyone can go away in a camper van or look after their parents and grandparents.

People want more humanity and communication.

We need more volunteers and more openness to the outside world.

This is a subject that affects the whole of society. It is not a religious or political issue.

Amen, nevertheless Fiona!

Everyone supposes that your thoughts and emotions drive your facial expressions. But how may people know that facial expressions also drive your mood?

Not much is written about this but there are clues. They say if you look UP (head held high), you can’t feel depressed. But if you look down (head lowered) you can’t feel cheerful. Try it, you’ll largely agree it’s true, though there are exceptions to everything, of course.

You may know how to do a “happy face”: you smile, even if it hurts, lift your head up and look the world in the eye. Pretty soon you start feeling things are not so bad and if you can keep it up for long enough, you’ll start to smile for real!

If you want to really change how you feel, start laughing… Just laugh for no reason. That’s alien to a lot of people; the common response is “I have nothing to laugh about.” But you don’t need a reason; you laugh for no reason! Pretty soon the world seems a brighter, happier place.

This stuff is not secret… but you don’t see it written about very much. Yet it’s very important; if you can change your mood by changing your face and posture, why don’t we do it more? Put the emotion there and then you’ll start to feel it. Clowns do this famously: the broken-hearted clown who smiles and acts ever-so-jolly anyway, getting the kids to laugh. It’s an archetype.

The NLP people (neuro-linguistic programming) have had a cute question for decades: we ask a person “How do you DO happiness?” or “How do you DO angry?”

The idea is to make the person realize that emotions don’t just happen to a person, as everybody supposes. He or she CREATES it for themselves. So a person might answer that he or she does angry by standing aggressively, eyeballing a person in a threatening way, raises the pitch and volume of the voice and feels hot and red in the face (that’s what I do, anyway!)

I do not go along with the corny stance that “She made me angry”; it’s hogwash. You make yourself angry, in response to something or other. Same with sadness, fear and despair.

Nobody teaches these skills. But it should be taught standardly—at school, at Sunday school and in the home—in the way we are taught to be polite, non-abrasive, respectful and honest. We should learn how to “do” only the best emotions and, naturally, learn how to interrupt or spoil the making of poor emotions!

Botox

Now what about Botox injections? It’s a treatment that paralyzes your facial expressions… Has anyone asked the question: does that not affect or even paralyze your moods too?

Surprisingly, the answer is a resounding YES. Quite a number of disturbing studies have made it clear that losing the power of facial expression also diminishes mood, or what doctors and psychologists call “affect”.

This should be no surprise, if you have grasped what I said in the first three paragraphs.

And that’s in addition to the many and often dangerous side-effects caused by Botox. That stuff is deadly: a jam jar full of Botox powder could kill everyone on planet earth. OF COURSE the manufacturers and proponents play down the dangers; it’s totally safe in the right hands, they say; the quantities are so tiny, they pose no threat.

All such reassurances are based on the assumption that the injected Botox stays where it is put. But that’s a load of hooey! You don’t expect penicillin or B12 shots to stay at the site of the injection, do you? What would be the point?

Yet, we are supposed to accept the con that Botox does, indeed, stay put.

Then why do some people end up with difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing? That’s not consistent with the “official” narrative (backed by the FDA) is it?

In fact the manufacturer Allergan’s website is quite candid about the dangers, and I quote:

BOTOX® Cosmetic may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening.

Including: Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing, due to weakening of associated muscles, can be severe and result in loss of life. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre-existing before injection. Swallowing problems may last for several months.

Would anyone in their right mind seriously submit to the threat of death, just to get rid of wrinkles? Of course not… So they lie and hide the truth. Patients are told it’s perfectly safe. There is no real informed consent.

Spread Of Toxin Effects

The truth is, the toxin does not stay put. The effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas away from the injection site and cause serious symptoms including: loss of strength and all-over muscle weakness, double vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice, trouble saying words clearly, loss of bladder control, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

We now know that botulinum toxin can travel widely beyond the site of injection directly to the central nervous system. Science Daily reported on this finding in 2015. Measurable amounts of the potent toxin used for cosmetic surgery escapes into the central nervous system, they said.

UQ Queensland Brain Institute laboratory leader Professor Frederic Meunier said “The discovery that some of the injected toxin can travel through our nerves is worrying, considering the extreme potency of the toxin. “

“While no side-effects of using Botox medically have been found yet, finding out how this highly active toxin travels to the central nervous system is vital because this pathway is also hijacked by other pathogens such as West Nile or Rabies viruses.”

This comment is disingenuous, because medical side effects have been noted and published widely. I do not believe he could be unaware of these publications.

Dr Tong Wang, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Professor Meunier’s laboratory, discovered that most of the toxin is transported to a cellular dump where it is meant to be degraded upon reaching the central nervous system.

“For the first time, we’ve been able to visualize single molecules of Botulinum toxin traveling at high speed through our nerves,” Dr Wang said.

“We found that some of the active toxins manage to escape this route and intoxicate neighboring cells, so we need to investigate this further and find out how.”

Findings of the research are published in the Journal of Neuroscience.1

But the REAL worry is not mishaps and complications of the procedure. It’s whether or not Botox is capable of altering someone’s state of mind in an adverse way. And, yes, it can.

Something which would horrify many aware spiritual citizens is that Botox use recommends that it be injected directly into the procerus muscle, dead in line with the mystical Third Eye (basically the pineal gland). In Chinese acupuncture this point is known as the Yin Tang, and is known as an “extraordinary point,” i.e. it stands on its own and is not part of any existing meridian.

Yin Tang is said to calm the spirit, ease anxiety & worry, it activates intuition, & brings profound presence. It shouldn’t be blasted by a toxic chemical.

I aver that the major harm from Botox is that it clouds emotions, reduces affect (less emotional feeling) and blocks the sweetness of human interaction. Here’s proof.

A 2009 study titled, “The link between facial feedback and neural activity within central circuitries of emotion–new insights from botulinum toxin-induced denervation of frown muscles,” found that Botox treatment reduced the activation of the left amygdala and its functional coupling with brain stem regions implicated in autonomic manifestations of emotional states.2

A 2010 study titled, “Cosmetic use of botulinum toxin-A affects processing of emotional language, reveals that Botox-induced blocking facial expression by peripheral denervation of facial musculature selectively hinders emotional language processing.

A 2011 study titled, “Embodied Emotion Perception,” found that Botox injections dampened emotion perception by interfering with muscular feedback from the face, effectively interfering with their ability to empathize.

And of course it blocks the ability to generate warm, friendly emotions, as described in the opening paras.

2014 study titled, “Botulinum toxin-induced facial muscle paralysis affects amygdala responses to the perception of emotional expressions: preliminary findings from an A-B-A design, ” found that Botox affects emotional experience by interfering with the feedback signals from facial muscles. Specifically, Botox interfered with amygdala activity, a part of the brain’s limbic system associated with memory, survival instinct, and emotions in general.

Touchy-Feely? Not after Botox I’m afraid.

A 2014 study titled, “Altered cortical activation from the hand after facial botulinum toxin treatment,” found that Botox-induced loss of facial movements alters the cortical circuits involved in processing tactile inputs from the hand. The researchers concluded: “This suggests that the limited paralysis of facial muscles induced during cosmetic interventions designed to smooth lines and wrinkles on the face is sufficient to alter the cortical processing of tactile inputs from the hand.”

After Botox, you can’t feel objects or people with the same degree of subtlety!

2016 study titled, “Deeper than skin deep – The effect of botulinum toxin-A on emotion processing,” found that emotional stimuli were blunted after Botox use, and that they became slower at categorizing emotional facial expressions under time pressure.3

And what started me on this was a recent (2023) study in the British journal, The New Scientist, 23 March 2023, which reports that researchers conducted fMRI brain scans on people before and after receiving Botox injections, which confirmed that the treatment appears to alter our ability to react to emotion in others.4

?This is a huge price to pay for getting rid of wrinkles, WHICH ARE NOT PATHOLOGY and should not be medicalized. I must share with my Third Age Wisdom friends that, as Clarence Day Jr. (1874 – 1935) wrote, “Age should not have its face lifted, but it should rather teach the world to admire wrinkles as the etchings of experience and the firm line of character.”

Personally, I recall with huge merriment Sir Billy Connolly describing himself as “windswept and interesting”! You gotta love Billy!

This is an important announcement, rather than my usual newsletter. I decided to switch at the last minute, since the news is current and very critical to us all.

The FDA is coming for your final years. They want to take them away and have you die sooner.

Strictly speaking, it’s a greedy little scientist (not a doctor) who wants you to either make him rich or he’ll let you die young. He’s now ensnared the FDA in his little scheme—but we are on to him.

Professor David Sinclair PhD at Harvard University (a biologist) has been working the system for years. One wonder if he ever does any work as professor, teaching his students, or is he too busy on research? Remember my long-standing cynical saying: most medical “research” is really just clever marketing!

Sinclair, you may know, came out with “miracle” discoveries about resveratrol years ago, much to the annoyance of his academic colleagues, and sold all the research to the highest bidder… and then the “holes” in his research appeared. You may have noticed, nobody talks so much about resveratrol anymore?

Unless you want to drink over 30 bottles of red wine a day, resveratrol is a non-story. Animal studies suggest as much as 500 mg daily may be necessary to provide any of the claimed health benefits (my own formula—below—has the full 500 mg). Red wine contains at most 12 mg resveratrol per liter, more typically about 3 mg, so to get 500 mg daily, you’d need to drink 40 liters or more of wine daily.

It May All Disappear

Now Sinclair is trying to repeat his tricky deal. He has published a lot of research on NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide), showing how essential it is to healthy aging. Sinclair and his corporation, Metro International Biotech, now want their version of NMN, MIB-626, to be classified as a drug. They want this miracle molecule, which exists for-free in Nature, to become an expensive pharmaceutical drug and NMN the rest of us use to be banned.

Smirky David Sinclair. If his coup comes off, he’ll have plenty to smirk about

The FDA announced its cooperation in this coup. If this sneaky action goes through, NMN will no longer be classified as a food supplement but as a pharmaceutical drug under investigation and that will stop all sales of NMN.

Sinclair will make $billions and you and I will be left to either pay the obscene profits to him and his cronies in Big Pharma, or suffer advanced aging. Talk about moving the goalposts!

Grab yourself a stockpile of NMN now: it’s flying off the shelves everywhere because of this attack.

See, NMN is about the best we have so far, to fight aging. It’s not NMN itself that will save us but a substance further down the line, derived from NMN, called NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide plus). Sorry about these horrible names; that’s why we use abbreviations!

NAD+, part of the vitamin B3 family, is a critical coenzyme found in every cell in your body, and it is involved in hundreds of metabolic processes, including the sirtuin pathways.

Sirtuins are proteins that repair DNA damage and maintain the epigenome which regulates gene activity. The epigenome determines which genes are switched on or off, so even “bad” genes are not so bad, if they are switched off!

Research has shown that NAD+ decreases with age and this decrease is involved in a lot of age-related pathology and various diseases. I’ve shown you one of these pictures before but let me reproduce this one here:

The mouse on the left is older, slower, fatter and has a shabby grey coat. Yet these two animals are from the same litter! [But beware: the older-looking mouse was genetically engineered to age faster]. The slim, sleek mouse has been fed sirtuins.

Incidentally, ignore fake before-and-after images like the one below. But you wouldn’t believe something like this, would you? This one is from Herbalmax. Uuugh!

Herbalmax Photoshopped fake image

Research shows Raising NAD+ levels extends longevity and improves health in animals by preventing obesity, diabetes, and fatty liver disease, protecting the heart from damage, and stimulating liver regeneration. Furthermore, increasing intracellular NAD+ improves mitochondrial energetics and aerobic capacity.

As a result of these animal studies, increasing NAD+ levels with NAD+ precursors that are derivatives of vitamin B3 — such as niacinamide, NMN, and nicotinamide riboside (NR) — are being investigated as potential therapies to prevent and possibly reverse age-related disorders.

Take Action NOW

So, what are we to do? For the time being, we must await the FDA decision, which is pending. Sinclair has filed his application and there is a slow process to follow. The unpleasant result would be that Sinclair’s patented derivative substance from NMN, so-called MIB-626, will emerge as the victor and we the losers.

But if it can be shown that NMN was on sale, as a food supplement, before Sinclair made his application to have MIB-626 lifted into that slot, he will fail. The FDA (except in one of its moments of criminally over-stepping the mark) cannot ban a food supplement.

Trouble is, Sinclair is being sneaky and hiding the date of the first application. I feel sure it will come out eventually, though the FDA is not suppose to release it.

Be Pro-Active!

There are other pathways to NAD+, but don’t hold your breath! I would act now and grab a ton of NMN and keep it stockpiled. It’s flying off the shelves in stores, because people want to feel safe.

I have it for as little as $69.95, if you buy 6 bottles (you can buy just one).

Well, why not? We are timeless beings, because we are non-material. Let’s be clear about this. The space-time continuum, or the physical universe, is loaded with matter, energy, space and time. But non-material means NO matter, NO energy, NO space and NO time.

No time? That means we are immortal, we live forever, we cannot simply die or vanish. So if you believe in spirit, you’d better pay attention, because this is what spirit means!

In biology—our physical bodies—we talk about living three or four score years and ten, or more. Latterly there has been an interest in living through the one hundred and twenty years to one hundred and fifty years zone.

According to Leonard Hayflick, we are supposed to get around fifty cell divisions before we die (he’s wrong). But even if he were correct, with careful health management, fifty cell divisions could mean we would live three hundred years on average.

Now the thing about averages is this: some people will die young, say 100 years. That means others will live far more than three hundred years… maybe five or six hundred years. So stories about Methuselah might have some foundation in fact.

But all this is biology; the creature; your present identity. It has nothing to do with the adventure of YOU, the great being who is—by definition—immortal!

This is not being unctuous (nice word, bad meaning!) It’s straight out of science and math. We know what the properties of the physical universe are so, by reversing those, we can grasp the meaning of spirit.

What we are talking about really is STILLNESS. The whole physical universe is built up of motion: energy is moving particles in space; matter is particles moving DUE TO energy; space is where it all happens and time is the measure of it all.

So non-materiality means no motion… stillness, as I said. And isn’t that the kind of language we hear from those who have returned from an incredible, deep spiritual experience or engagement.

People who come close to core self have remarkably similar wording for their experience. Actually, most say it is impossible to put into words. But those who try tell us about the vast, oceanic feeling; a stillness; absolute calm; a loss of sense of time and space; a connectivity with all things; and what may be called a “beautiful sadness”—not really sadness but a beauty and serenity so amazing that it must surely end and it already has an in-built sense of deprivation when it’s gone

Peak Experiences

The term “peak-experience” was introduced by American psychologist Abraham H. Maslow (1908–1970) in his wonderful book Towards a Psychology Of Being. It refers to that state of ecstatic, oceanic transpersonal unity. At such times, individuals feel detached from the everyday and ordinary and connected instead to an integrated universe. At such moments individuals report becoming selfless or indeed “egoless” (beyond self). Moreover, their sense of time and location is often greatly distorted. Maslow argues that during peak experiences people become more truly themselves.Abraham Maslow, famous for his Hierarchy of Needs

In a religious context, peak experiences are often considered to be mystical or divine in origin. Maslow agreed with William James, John Dewey, and Erich Fromm that religion is not a single “social institution” or set of specific practices (like a church, temple or set of rules); rather, it is a “state of mind” that may be manifest in any aspect of everyday life.

Indeed, Maslow explicitly divides religion into two types: the mystical, engaged and intense “peakers”, like St Teresa de Avila or Hildegard of Bingen, and the doctrinal, ritualized “non-peakers”, like the Calvinists or the Bible bashers of southern USA (my examples, not Maslow’s). For Maslow, the peak experience is the model of the religious revelation and the conversion experience, which in many religious narratives takes place under the most ordinary, everyday conditions: St Paul on the road to Damascus sort of thing.

It could be that the mystical state so desirable in Zen Buddhism called satori is also a type of peak experience.

As Maslow poetically observed in Religions, Values, And Peak-Experiences, (1964) “The great lesson from the true mystics {is that} the sacred is in the ordinary, that it is to be found in one’s daily life, in one’s neighbors, friends, and family, in one’s backyard.”

Myself I have “peaked” while regressing far into my world path, many lifetimes ago and other universes. At such times I have watched the physical literally dissolve and been able to see through walls, and even see through the person in front of me! The physical, after all, is a mere illusion, as advanced science tells us. It’s no big thing to be able to look beyond that, into the Void of non-material Being and experience!

What all “peakers” (I don’t like Maslow’s term) agree is that it is a life-changing event, a new way of thinking, when one sees deeply into “The Beyond”.

Complementary to the peak experience is the “plateau-experience,” a notion Maslow developed at the end of his career. It is close to what we call “shift” in Supernoetics®. Whereas the peak experience is often an ecstatic overflow of the senses, the plateau experience is a calm, reflective moment of serenity during which the individual is able both to feel and to think about his or her situation. Unlike peak experiences, plateau experiences may be cultivated.

Shift, in turn, is the natural consequence of what we call “piloting” or guided psychic travel, in my Punk Psychology®.

You Can Try For Yourself

Forget the candles, the incense and the creepy music!

My favorite way of entering The Beyond is by closing my eyes and making myself mindful that I am NOT inside my skull. I am instantly aware that my “being” has no edges. It is infinite. It is not defined by my anatomy, my surroundings, or current time or current space.

Indeed, my first act to shift out into the great Void is to reach out through space with my self, meaning my sense of Being becomes more and more extensive. It is a fundamental of my Supernoetics® that space is being. The more space you can occupy, the greater your being!

You don’t have to be King Herod, Peter The Great or president of the USA, to command a lot of space. That’s the wrong kind of space. I mean infinite spiritual space. Go out into the Cosmos and romp!

You’ll soon lose your anatomical boundaries—and that alone is exciting! We are conditioned to think of ourselves as our “creature”, the animal aspect of self. As soon as you begin to FEEL (not just think) that you are bigger than your head and body, you are developing a real sense of self. An attuned and meaningful Being.

Next thing you know, you’ll start having psychic experiences—telepathy, intuition, prescience and the like. You can start linking up with a like-minded friend and seeing if you can connect. That’s usually heralded by intuitive moments, when you just know the other is about to telephone you, or what he or she was doing… and feeling.

It’s rather fun and, of course, important, because it is part of the greater meaning of what it is to BE!

Good luck

It’s not often a mix in my newsletters with my products, but today I am going to do just that. There a vast amount of learning here, especially for us Boomers and it’s time for an update!

Time was (about 10 years ago) when I had the #1 slot on Google for Puereria mirifica. Those days are gone, not because I am no longer one of the world’s leading experts on Pueraria, but because crafty little snots who know how to push themselves to the top of Google, even though they know ZERO medicine, call the shots.

Pueraria mirifica, is a herbal remedy from Thailand. In fact I jokingly call is HRT (Herbal Remedy From Thailand, get it?)

Pueraria mirifica (also related to Kwao Krua and Butea Superba), is a plant found only in Thailand and parts of Burma; 99% is grown in Thailand. Don’t let Chinese growers or online pushers of breast-enlargement creams kid you otherwise!

The region where this plant is grown is remarkable for its low rate of breast cancer and impressive longevity, which alerted scientists to something good going on. The lucky women get to use this local plant and the benefits are enormous and the science is building all the time.

Thai menopausal women, have been using Pueraria Mirifica for 700 years.

Men should use it too, especially as they age, since men are increasingly exposed to old-age estrogens (“male estrogen”).

The active ingredients seem to be miroestrol and deoxymiroestrol. These have been shown to be 3,000 more potent as estrogens than soy isoflavones, which led to my friend Dr. Garry Gordon MD, wisecracking a few years ago, that Pueraria mirifica “Makes Black Cohosh and Red Clover look like placebos”! (Garry was never one for understatement!)

Mirifica means “miracle” and it does seem as if we have a miracle herb on our hands. It counters all the negative effects of estrogen—a big problem in today’s world.

There is no increase in estrogen levels ever found, yet it reverses atrophic vaginitis and in fact, Dr. Christiane Northrup has reported that vaginal tissues become years younger and painful intercourse disappears.

The Problem

What Problem? Well, it is an estrogen mimic and ought to make estrogen dominance worse. But the fact it is doesn’t. It works by attaching to estrogen receptors, so that real estrogen is rendered ineffective, but it does so without stimulating the receptors in a dangerous way.

This is sometimes called estrogen inhibition.

It actually works by the same mechanism as the drug Tamoxifen, to reduce risk of breast cancer cells proliferating. There is much more to research on this incredible story, which it appears should be in the diet of every women from adolescence on, so that we bring breast cancer rates down to those in Northern Thailand, which is proven to be the lowest in the world.

Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs)

Pueraria in one of a group of emergent compounds, which includes the drug Tamoxifen, called selective estrogen receptor modulators or SERMs.

SERMs are called “selective” because they bind to particular estrogen receptors. SERMs do not prevent the production of estrogen, but they help to slow or stop the growth of estrogen-sensitive cancer cells by starving them of a full dose of natural estrogen.

There are other beneficial side effects, such as lowering cholesterol and protecting bone health for post-menopausal women, keeping the skeleton and joints strong and preventing breaks and fractures.

The latest remarkable discovery is that SERMs can protect your telomeres and that is a number one result for anti-aging (more of that in a moment).

Men Too!

Men can benefit too. We know that male estrogen increases through time, while testosterone falls, due to aging, body fat, hormonal replacement, pesticides, nutritional deficiencies, prescription medications and excessive alcohol intake. It’s equivalent to estrogen dominance.

In fact, studies have shown that the estrogen levels of the average 54-year-old man is higher than those of the average 59-year-old women! The end result is that these high levels of estrogen can cause reduced levels of testosterone, fatigue, loss of muscle tone, increased body fat, loss of libido and sexual function, an enlarged prostate and man-boobs.

So Pueraria has potential benefits for men too. It does not produce male breasts and may actually reduce this sign of aging plumpness.

But don’t suppose PM will take the place of good diet, exercise, cutting down on alcohol and losing plenty of weight.

Reversing Aging

This is the bit we are interested in here.

Harvard scientists have taken prematurely aged mice and reversed the toll of time – increasing the size of their shrunken brains, restoring their diminished sense of smell, and turning their graying fur to a healthy sheen.

They did this by using the SERM properties.

The mice were at the very end of their lives and scientists expected no more than to slow or perhaps stabilize the aging process. Instead, they saw a dramatic reversal in the symptoms of aging!

Guess which mouse got the SERM! [these mice are from the same litter!]

The mice were specially developed to be telomere-deficient and aged fast. Just mid-way through the normal lifespan of a mouse, their organs had atrophied, their brains had shrunk, their coats turned gray and shabby and they had lost the ability to detect noxious odors.

But when scientists used a Tamoxifen-clone enzyme to switch the gene back on for a month, many hallmarks of aging seemed to reverse. The fertility of the mice increased, their sense of smell was restored, and their organs were rejuvenated. They literally went into aging reverse. See photo. The mouse on the left once looked like the old crock on the right! But now it looks YEARS younger (in human terms)

Well, the complex enzyme used for this trial is not available commercially and I could not recommend Tamoxifen as a good idea, even if you could get your doctor to prescribe it.

But you can take Pueraria and expect at least some of this beneficial aging effect. In several senses, Pueraria mirifica is a “fountain of youth”.

Dosage and Sources

Menstruating Women

Truly, a “miracle” herb and deserves its name.

Want Some?

Well, the good news is that it is back in stock at Dr. Keith’s Own, at last. This is the Real Deal Pueraria, not the fake Chinese stuff that’s all over Amazon.

My suppliers farm the herb responsibly and don’t go tramping all over the jungle ripping up anything that even looks look a tuber!

In other words it’s a sustainable product.
