Where The Holistic Rubber Meets The Scientific Road

For Diabetics – Nagging is a Good Thing

We’ve all seen those couples in a restaurant who seem to argue over their meal. It’s almost always the wife telling her husband that he can’t have this because it’s bad for his heart or he can’t have that because of his blood sugar.

I bet most of us feel sorry for the husband. Not anymore!

It turns out that nagging is a good thing when it comes to living with diabetes. Michigan State University discovered that men who live with a spouse who “monitors” their diet are slower to develop the disease and if they do get it, they respond better to treatment!

The bad news is that while the husband is healthier overall because of this perpetual harping, it breeds tension and negative discourse throughout the marriage.

Lead investigator and associate professor at MSU, Hui Liu, stated, “The study challenges the traditional assumption that negative marital quality is always detrimental to health. It also encourages family scholars to distinguish different sources and types of marital quality. Sometimes, nagging is caring.”

Living with Diabetes – Easier Than You Think

For those of you who don’t have a caring (if a little frustrating) spouse or significant other at home, you need to know what you can do to prevent diabetes (the fastest growing chronic disease in the United States) and reverse it if you’re diagnosed.

Globally, 90% of diabetics have type 2 and that 100% of type 2 diabetes diagnosed cases are both preventable and reversible!

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 347 million people currently have diabetes and that diabetes was a direct cause of more than 1.5 million deaths in 2012 alone.

Primary Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes

  • Obesity
  • Physical inactivity
  • Poor diet
  • Smoking

This disease affects every organ, damaging cells and raising your risk of heart disease, kidney disease, neuropathy (nerve damage), blindness, and death.

If you have diabetes, you’re twice as likely to die as people your age who don’t have it. It’s underreported as cause of death (currently the 7th leading cause in the U.S.) since more than half of diabetics die from heart attack or stroke.

The major risk factors are lifestyle related. That means type 2 diabetes can be prevented with healthy lifestyle choices. It can also be reversed by changing your habits.

The concept is so simple that it makes you wonder why diabetes is so prevalent! These methods are free and within your control! Living with diabetes doesn’t have to be a death sentence! All you have to do is start making small, active changes.

Stop the Cycle of Disease!

  • Weight: The pounds have to come off. Your heart, your digestive system, your brain, and every cell in between will thank you. Obesity is linked to dozens of serious diseases. Experts estimate many causes of death should list “obesity” rather than diabetes, heart disease, or cancer. Those pounds are killing you in ways you might not realize for another ten or twenty years.
  • Diet: Drop the refined sugar, refined flour, and ridiculous amounts of simple carbohydrates found in over-processed foods. Eliminate hydrogenated oils. Fast food is a fast way to destroy your health. Replace all the garbage with real food! Organic fruits and vegetables, grain-fed beef, probiotic yogurt, and fermented foods.

  • Exercise: Most people hate it but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. The time for excuses is over. There’s no need to train like a professional athlete but the human body was meant to move. Start small, commit to it, and don’t stop. Even stretching exercises and short walks done daily will make a huge impact in a sedentary lifestyle.
  • Sleep: If you want the fastest and most effective method of lowering inflammation, repairing damaged tissue, producing new cells, and invigorating your brain then getting eight hours of quality sleep is the answer you’ve been looking for. Sleep deprivation raises your risk of obesity, cancer, heart disease, and neurodegenerative disease. You can change so much (mentally, emotionally, and physically) by getting good sleep.
  • Smoking: You know the drill, you know the statistics, and you know it will kill you. No matter how hard it is to quit, you have to make it happen. Every time you inhale, you lose a little more. Get the habit out of your life for good (but don’t replace it with something else).

Reverse diabetes, reduce inflammation, and live a longer and healthier life. Living with diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer are not the life you’re meant to live. It’s time to take back the power of good health.

You can do it. All of us can do it. We can stop the epidemics of poor health from ravaging the human population. The changes are so simple…we simply have to be sick and tired of being sick and tired.

The time has come to act.
