Where The Holistic Rubber Meets The Scientific Road

Our World Is Changing For The Worst, Forever!

This is not a “fear porn” circular but a health how-to; just be patient while I get to that…

I am surprised to find myself wanting to write about the Fukushima disaster in Japan. I don’t do these “Aaaaaghhh!” circulars. There’s plenty being said and always will be, by a certain element. What’s the point of me adding words to the torrent of verbiage?

Because the picture is getting worse all the time and has suddenly turned so bad that it beggars belief. Not, I hasten to add, that the toxic effluvia has suddenly got worse; that’s not the case. What’s alarming is the emergence of just how bad it has been and how much the lies and cover up has put the world at risk.

My main health concern is not simply the amount of radioactivity released but the insanely toxic lies that the Tokyo Electrical Power Company (TEPCO) has taken as an entitlement!

It’s staggering that a bunch of corporate executives think it is their right to lie and cover up their mess and put at risk men, women and children all over the planet; when the truth is that it’s our entitlement to know the full story and take suitable steps to prevent ourselves from being killed or damaged for life by their actions.

It’s no coincidence that Japan was allied to the Nazis in WW2. They are a notoriously fascist nation. But even so, this degree of disdain for human rights is dangerous for the rest of us.

Liars, cheats and scumbags are the real health hazard here. And that’s why I am writing this.

In case you haven’t heard, the Japanese government is now involved and started to uncover that shocking scale of lies and treachery by TEPCO.

It’s emerged that anywhere from 300 to possibly over 450 tons of contaminated water that contains radioactive iodine, cesium, plutonium, and strontium-89 and 90, is flooding into the Pacific Ocean from the Fukushima site every single day.

To give you an idea of how bad that actually is, Japanese experts estimate Fukushima’s fallout at 20-30 times as high as the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombings in 1945, from which people are still dying.

It’s been spilling this dangerous material ever since the earthquake disaster, two and a half years ago. They were hiding it. We knew there was some spillage but the scale of this, we now know, is terrifying.

In Aug, 2013, Reuters reported that Japan dramatically raised its warning about the severity of a toxic water leak at Fukushima, from a level 1 “anomaly” to a level three “serious incident” on the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES). That’s a 100-fold increase. It’s also a measure of the scale of their lying, isn’t it?

Not that a few hundred gallons a day is much, when compared with the vastness of the Pacific Ocean, which covers almost half our planet (49%). But just to do the dilution calculations is to miss the point; or three very important points:

  1. The pollution is not evenly spread everywhere; most of it is washing away from Japan and Asia, and on to the West coast of American (where I spend most of my time).
  2. Secondly, it all gets concentrated as it goes up the food chain. There are alarming signs I’ll share in a moment that food from the Pacific will soon be too toxic to support human life. It’s doubtful if we can all survive the loss of such a massive food resource. It will cost lives.
  3. These pollutants, once inside our bodies, will tend to stay there and are cumulative.

Will it ever stop or clear? Not in our lifetimes or for many generations ahead; centuries perhaps. It’s already known that most of the nuclear contamination has gone into the ground, where it can’t be reached.

But it continues to leak into the environment at an unknown rate. Hundreds of gallons a day may be a huge underestimate, for all we know.

We do know that radioactive iodine and caesium levels have already reached over a million times any previous existing environmental levels (I mean, how stupid is it, to build a nuclear reactor on one of the world’s worst earthquake zones?)world is changing for the worst

Meanwhile, living organisms around the Pacific rim are taking the hit. Plankton testing at 10 different points in the Pacific show radio-active caesium from Fukushima, with the highest levels just north east of Hawaii.

Fish are being landed bleeding from the eyes, sea lions are falling over and dying at an unprecedented rate, Blue-fin tuna samples contained reactor byproducts cesium-134 and cesium-137 and sockeye salmon have all but vanished from the Pacific Northwest, “The elders…have never seen anything like this at all,” said Native American Chief Wilf Adam.

Nobody knows yet, what is happening to the larger species, such as dolphins and whales; all we know is that toxins concentrate rapidly, the higher up the food chain we go… and humans are the TOP of almost all food chains.

Meanwhile, the EPA and FDA will not test Pacific food sources for radioactivity (why?) and the “people’s President” Barack Obama is ignoring the threat to his own people, while he is playing at toy soldiers in the Middle East.

Well, there is plenty more bad news; torrents of it, in fact. I’ll leave all that to those who love to circulate these things (I saw it described as “fear porn”, meaning alarming news and no solutions).

What’s To Be Done To Help?

The answer, as always, is you had better take care of yourself; I mean it.

It’s wise, I am sure, to avoid knowingly consuming Pacific-harvested seafood, till we know more (no more visits to my absolute favorite fresh oyster bar, on the shores of Tomales Bay in California!)

Certainly avoid fish high up the food chain (tuna, albacore, halibut, swordfish and so on). You need to protect your thyroid and the ONLY way to do that is to get plenty of good iodine into your body, FAST.

You can’t trust any iodine or Lugol’s manufactured recently. Fortunately, I have a personal supply from years ago that won’t run out any time soon. And frankly, if you can buy a gallon of older Lugol’s, do so, no matter the cost. You can always share it or give it to your progeny as a heritage gift!

The half life of radioactive iodine is only a few days. But caesium is much more of a problem: it has a half life of 30 years. You need to be clear about something here: because half of it has gone in 30 years does NOT mean it’s all gone in 60 years. Some of it will be around for centuries.

Up your vitamin D to 4,000 IU daily. Add magnesium; make sure you get at least 400 mg daily.

Strontium 90 is another big danger. Get some good uncontaminated strontium, while stocks last. 10 mg daily is probably enough.

Vitamin C is good. Tests before and after entering the Fukushima danger zone showed that those protected by vitamin C did not show DNA damage and pre-cancerous changes that were visible in those who were not protected by vitamin C.

With LivonLabs lipospheric C now readily available, one sachet a day gives you the equivalent of 10 grams a day, without the diarrhea; 2 sachets would be ample.

Add in lipoic acid, glutathione and some kind of chelator (these radioactive substances are all metals, which chelate). Spirulina and Chlorella were great starter-kits for chelation but, of course, they are now suspect too.

My former UK colleague Damien Downing MD has written the definitive piece on this, for the Orthomolecular News Service: Downing D. (2011) Radioactive Fallout: Can Nutritional Supplements Help?, A Personal Viewpoint, OMNS, May 10.

Damien quotes a US Department of Homeland Security funded guidelines paper in 2006, with advice on key radioactive pollutants, such as uranium, caesium, iodine and plutonium. You can download yourself a copy of this document by clicking here today.

Don’t forget your pets. They can probably make their own vitamin C; most animals do. But iodine in their drinking supply would be a good idea.
